Hi all

I have a really annoying problem with my gearstick, I have to bash it down to get it into reverse and when I take it out of reverse the gear stick doesn't pop back up on its own I have the pull it back up. I have taken all the rubber boots off and sprayed wd40 in there but it hasn't made a difference. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers
Alex

Yea that sounds like what I have, it has got worse since I have been driving it, I really have to thump it down and yank it back up. Really annoying me now.

Well I thought that with mine take it for a long drive tho and it sticks again its almost as if something gets hot and expands :?
Yep your right, just had a fairly long drive and it's got stiff again. I'm going to ask my local mechanic tomorrow, see what he reckons.

let me know if you find a solution :) out of interest was there any damage to the rubber boot that sits ontop of the gearbox when you had in bits?
Will do matey. No there was no damage to the three boots, But there was water siting on the top boot :S not sure how that got in.

odd! i did have a small split in mine thats why i changed the stick out!

hopefully you will find a solution :)
Spoke to my mate at the garage the other day, he reckons the only thing it could be is something inside the gear stick housing expanding when it heats up. Take it all apart clean everything and grease everything, see what happens afterwards.
I'm going to do mine this week when I get 10 minutes and ill let you know how I get on.

I finally got time this morning to take the gearstick mechanism apart and try to solve this problem. For those of you that do not know what it all looks like and how it works I took photos. [attachment=2:3kibyc6h]ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21368608057.621332.jpg[/attachment:3kibyc6h]
The plastic part slide's down inside the cnc bit with a big spring that goes inside to pop the stick back up when taking out of reverse. But I'm 99.9% sure that the plastic part has expanded over the year's due to heat. I completely cleaned every part and re oiled and greased it all. It's a little more free but it is still a tight fit. So I think the plastic part has expanded and not shrunk back down, so I think the only way to fix this is buy a new one. Hope that helps some people with the same annoying issue.
