engine was making a wierd noise on deceleration but at time could not trace the fault as it only made noise "on the move" . then on a long distance trip it became a rattle on all but acceleration. as soon as the bonnet was opened the noise was there straight from the timing chain housing. ordered new chains / adjuster unit started the strip down to find the secondary "slack side guide had SNAPPED and was floating around in middle of secondary chain .

any one else had a similar problem ?

There is a timing chain recall if yours is 04 or older check with your nissan dealer.check with a couple of dealers first told me no second said yes bring it in.dont matter that its out of warranty.

Hi teamdragula,
Could you let me know how you get on and if you use a local Nissan dealer ( i live in higham), as I have a 53 plate d22 and I wonder if I should get mine checked/done as a matter of course?. I have done the bearing/rod bolt mod allready and have heard that they can be prone to timing chains aswell?. :(
Thanks,
Mark

As Neil said, there was a recall on the chain tensioner, the first thing would be to check with dealer that this has been done.

just contact your dealer with chassis no to hand they can tell within a couple of minutes.if you had from new then you know it aint been done recall i was told up to 04.
