Without wishing to offend anyone, this situation has been going on for at least more than the the 2 years that I have a member of this forum, and a Navara owner.
Some like myself bought their Navaras very cheaply with a rod already out, others have owned them from new.
Nobody in their right mind would think Nissan set out to instigate this problem, true they should have been a lot more pro-active (I hate modern day business jargon) in identifying this defect, and even more so in developing an answer to it.
But, they aren't the first and certainly won't be the last motor manufacturer who inadvertantly build in extremely significant defects in thier cars, and then sit down and ignore the results, e.g. Ford USA with the exploding fuel tanks that burnt many people to death.
A result of this (and other sites) is that we have got Nissan to up the warrenty period to 5 years and/or 150,000 kms for the YD25 engine'd cars, a valuable move for owners with perfect service history's.
The reason we have to spend our time and money resolving this issue is simple.
Being reasonable to Nissan (a first time for me!); there has to be a cut off period, warrenties cannot last forever, not all our cars have perfect service history's (hence are not covered anyway, this would be the same whatever manufacturer was involved!).
Nissan can reasonably be expected to become absolved from their responsibilities at some time, given the age of our cars this time has reasonably past or is about to expire.
Also as I have written shortly before, a Navara that has or is about to throw a rod and hole it's block, due to age and associated value can be thought of as scrap, or broken for parts, unless the lucky (or otherwise) owner finds that elusive 2nd hand undamaged engine that many of us have spent hours and hours looking for!
Given all of the above the main reason we spend our time and money repairing (what should not have happened in the first place) is that, once uprated these are fine very capable vehicles.
Those of us that have gone to these lengths are glad that we did expend the effort, and that 80-90 quid is well worth the cost to achive this, providing us with a working/leisure vehicle that as far as we know suffers no more generic defects, and that can be expected to give very many more years good service.
Regards to all,
Chris
PS
NO Nissan haven't given me a job, only trying to be fair (ouch! that hurt!)
