Hi all.

I'm new, and sorry for my (second) post asking for help.

I know this subject has been done to death too (been reading them all) but most cases seem to have some variation or lack detail so I'll give as many details as possible as I think somebody will tell me straight away what it is.

I've just bought a 2008 navara and it won't rev past a certain level.

This is an automatic model.

I thought it was limp mode at first, but it's not, as when testing today I managed to get up to 3500rpm very gently on the throttle in 3rd gear.

If I leave it in D however, it won't make it past 2500rpm, maybe 3000rpm in first gear.

It then jerks and flutters around 2500-2000rpm. Worse case I had it wouldn't rev above 1800rpm at one point.

After doing a lot of reading and from previous experience, I think it could be a few things:

1. Blocked fuel filter . The truck was VERY low on fuel when I picked it up. If this happened on my skyline I'd be looking at fuel starvation problems, as it almost feels like a fuel cut limiter.

2. Boost solenoid valve.

3. EGR Valve.

I have ordered a new fuel filter along with a new oil filter, air filter, and oil to give it a service, but they're yet to arrive.

I'm about to (after finishing my cuppa) go and locate and try and clean up the boost solenoid and the EGR valve.

Just wondering if there's anything obvious I'm missing or something else I should be checking.

Oh for the record I saw a lot of discussions about loosening the fuel cap, I tried that and hasn't helped.

Many thanks in advance for any help or assistance you can give.

Carry on with the filter change

Clean your MAF

Blank off the EGR valve

Do an ECU reset and read any fault codes that are revealed.

Good luck and keep us posted with progress :thumbright:
:+1 good luck

Hey all thanks.

Forgot to add I have a Bluetooth obd2 reader and there's no codes even when its refusing to rev. Cleaned the boost solenoid today. It was clogged , hasn't solved the problem but pulls much harder up until it won't rev.

Made a temporary blanking plate for the egr valve to test, seems no different although the egr was full of soot.

Hopefully the filters turn up tomorrow and I can crack on with them.

Also took a look at the maf. Its a bit dirty but didn't have any circuit cleaner so ordered a tin of that too.

Thanks for input so far

Cheers. Its been a fast learning process in the last 24 hours.

Tbh just been reading everyone else's posts and taking suggestions from there before posting so 24 hours ago I knew nothing!

Oh I also tried an ecu reset but I'll do it again once I've done the fuel filter

gold mine of info on this mate :thumbleft:

Hey all.

Update here:

Fuel filter changed, job done, drives fine now!

I just went to throw the old filter away and went to drain the diesel out, opening the air bleed tap, nothing came out, I had to unscrew the whole thing before eventually diesel started to come out the bigger hole that was left, at the bottom of the filter some dirty black fuel came out.

So all in all bottom line was the fuel filter, however I have now replaced the air filter, cleaned the boost solenoid and blanked off the egr. Just the oil change left to do and will clean the Maf when my cleaner arrives, that should get me s few more mpg.

Thanks to all who have contributed to these problems in the past and present, as I did all my reading up before touching anything, and without other people it would make all our lives much harder
