The truck today stalled on a level crossing with the kids and mrs in and would not start !

It's been stalling at random but more just first thing in the morning. Will often run fine after its warmed up....

Am I correct in thinking it may be this part?

The mrs won't use it till its fixed which is understandable...

Assuming your truck is a manual, in emergency situations such as this you could have selected first gear and then cranked the starter which would have crawled you forward. Admittedly it's a not very pleasant movement but at least it would get you out of harms way.

Ok I am at the motor factors now and it won't tick over and stalls. Going to replace the fuel filter to see if that helps. There is no mil or limp lights on the dash.

If I disconnect the maf will it still run?

It's had the egr blanked off and maf cleaned but maybe it got damaged by cleaning it although I never touched the parts ....

Well done a fuel filter change as suggested and it started and runs ok but stalled once on me but its 90 percent better...

I also changed the air filter too.

Maybe it's air in the pipes to the fuel canister. I will get some jubilee clips tomo And see if that cures it.

Thanks for all ya help and ideas. Will have to tell the mrs next time to put it in gear to move it on the starter...

Mate if you have the screw on filter, defiantly replace the spring type hose clips to screw ones.

It is a canister type. It's one whole piece but the hoses feel loose. It would not even go without a filter change so I am hoping the hose are suking air In. I am getting some new hoses and clips today. Hope it helps....

I think What carts is trying to explain to you is..
You need fuel pipe clips, not jubilee clips!!!
Jubilee clips tighten oval and will allow air in, fuel pipe clips are round and tighten the same shape.

It can be the suction control valve indeed. Especially if it's an Euro3 engine, but seen Euro4 failing too, but worth to get it check with a good garage before replacing the valve (as it can be just a fuel filter issue and it's cheaper then the valve.)

I have just replaced the scv and its still stalling? I am really at a loss now? I thought that would of cured it

It's had new fuel filter and air filter too. I filled the tank up too to make sure the fuel gauge was not faulty.

I bought some new fuel hose to replace the original as its a tighter fit. Will do that this afternoon .

I don't know any realy good garages around here...

Can any1 suggest a good specalist for these vehicles?

Did you replace the hose clips?

What does 1 flash followed by 4 quick flashes then 1 flash followed by 6 flashes mean on the engine management light?

I did a ecu reset and it eventually fashed 10 times meaning no fault codes. Is that correct?

Well changed the fuel hoses on the filter and it still stalls.

I have

Cleaned the maf
Blanked egr
New fuel filter
New air filter
New scv
New fuel pipes and clips
Ecu reset

I have tried

Disconnecting the maf and it runs the same
Disconnecting camshaft sensor and it won't run so timing chain is ok
Pumping fuel primeing bulb when running and still stalls
Blowing on the maf while engine running and still runs the same and stalls
Filled the tank with shell diesel

Any one any other suggestions before I take it to the steelers?

If the maf is done it should run with it disconnected should it not?

No. It stalls when there is little revs (below 1250) or at idle. No lights come on and it drives perfectly with power all through the rev range. Does it worse when cold though.
If its reved by the winter button on the dash it's less Likely to stall.

Did you reset the fuel pump after the valve replacement?
