Hi all, as you know I have a 2006 Navara D40 just turned 100000 miles, had a new timing chain set up put in in February, august there was a funny noise and she wasn't running right , took her back and found one of the new hydraulic tensioners had failed, a brand new set up installed under warranty and had no problem since ----- UNTIL NOW - coming home tonight doing about 60/70 mph suddenly realised I was putting my foot down further and further and that nothing was happening, pumped the throttle - no response, but she was still ticking over, parked her on the side of the road, still ticking over but would not rev, tick over slowed and got very very lumpy then died, she would not restart, but if you kept turning her over it got faster and faster trying to start but not quite getting there , then she would start but would not rev and ticked over very very lumpy then died almost immediately - had to be towed and whist under tow put her in third gear and tried to bump her - she started but would not rev - was lumpy and belched out tonnes of smoke then died again whats happening ---- the only thing I've done is filled her with diesel - could this be the problem --- please help my guys thanks

Is the engine check light on?

Have you checked for fault codes with an ECU reset or with a code reader?

It was diesel you filled up with, not petrol?
I thought the same it's easy done to grab the wrong pump in station, never done it personally yet, touch wood, but a few guys at work have cause they drive petrol's to work and diesels at work.

hi no the egr is not blanked off, I cleaned the passage early last year ---- would this cause the problems I've listed please ie cutting out whilst driving, very very lumpy tick over belching smoke and not starting please

In short yes it can.

Have a look at it and while you are at it check all your intake (boost) hoses.

If that is all OK you'll have to start investigating further starting with a new fuel filter.

Keep us posted, :fingersx

sorry fletch it was really dark and I couldn't see but I tried bumping her whist being towed and it wouldn't start it tried really hard to start but it smoked really bad

EGR = exhaust gas recycling so old dirty gas is sent back into the system to be used in the combustion process again clogging the system with ****
it will not be the cause of your problem but it will not help
bit like smoking 40 a day

well I took the EGR off this morning and the round thingy had indeed fallen off, I started her up without the EGR valve on and she started up on the button revved up and ticked over just fine, will be ordering a new one tomorrow from billcar - a guy called David there was extremely helpful today and quoted me ÂŁ385 inc vat inc postage, the fault codes I had 0409 and 0403 keep flashing 0409 EGR what does 0403 mean please

If the electronic valve is working correctly, I'd blank the egr off first.
It's well worth a try first, even if that doesn't work on the valve you have you'll still be doing good blanking the new one bud.

P0403 also refers to an EGR fault.

I bet you wish you had blanked the EGR valve off earlier :dunno

it's great you have found the problem, once you get your new vale fitted and blanked off you'll need to do an ECU reset and hopefully all will be well again :awesomework

Do you think the fault codes will reset even with the old damaged EGR valve?
