Hi All,

After hankering after a Landrover Discovery for sometime I stumbled upon a few Pathfinders that seem really good value and the Spec is great. I took one for a spin today and really rated it.

So I'll be looking for a Pathfinder 2.5 DCI 190 Tekna (Auto), circa 2011 with up to 40k - looks like I'll be looking at somewhere in the region of ÂŁ18-20k. I took a 2012 model out today with 13k on the clock which was ÂŁ25k and just a bit over budget.

So, is there anything in particular I should know about when looking at 2nd hand models - there aren't exactly 100's out there but am not in a huge rush to buy the first one I see. From browsing the forum there aren't any stand out big issues as far as I could see. I would be looking at keeping hte car for 5-6 years and taking it up to about 80-90k miles. What are the big ticket service items I need to be aware of etc....

Thanks in advance all!

Thanks for the responses guys.....as with most forums the tendency is to get the ´bad press´ out of the way and certainly individual cars will always thow up something to knacker up the statistics.....so, lets hear some positive news. By and large (apart from the odd bad luck story) they appear to be a decent motor so I'm not put off just yet....

Price wise I've taken a cue from Autotrader and Nissan Used Cars so think I'm in the right ball park but it will obviously come down to the individual vehicle when I find it. Ideally I'll buy from main dealer with a warranty which I'll extend after 12 months to guve some protection.

What are you guys getting fuel consumption in the real world from the 190 bhp auto (i.e my current car costs 70 quid to fill and I scrape 350 miles on a good day).....

Cheers

18 months of trouble free motoring here, very pleased with the vehicle. Tax is a bit steep compared to the Nav (ÂŁ490) although I'm told the manual is half the price  , not had this confirmed. MPG wise, mine does around 26, near enough the same as my previous manual Nav, but all my journeys are either short trips around town or one junction blasts up the motorway :D
Very pleased with it so far, I am a low mileage driver, so the vehicle has only done 15,000 in 2 years so I wouldn't expect any problems, just had it's first service, which I also thought was a bit steep (ÂŁ475ish), but has to be done for warranty.
Pics here .....

Good luck hunting for the right one :thumbleft:

Thanks for that. Looking at other posts i reckon it's about 20p/mile for diesel which compares to my current petrol guzzler. Tax is going to be ÂŁ200 more and insurance about the same so not too concerned about running costs. My mileage will 10k/year max so nothing to strenuos.

My manual '05 PF sets me back a modest ÂŁ280 annual road tax, and ÂŁ210 to insure fully comp with full no claims (I'm 42). I get 32.7 MPG although I had 34+ before getting a gearbox rebuild. Only issues I've had are with the SCV (search for many posts), one motorised folding mirror no longer folding and the rear A/C lines which corrode and leak coolant like a sieve. I did a DIY bypass to solve that issue which has been fine now for nearly 3 years. Have had my PF since 2008 and still in love! Family car & work van, just the job!

weakneses are the clutch - espicially if it has towed alot. door lock mechanism can be a menace. soft brake pedal.
high tax bracket depending on year.

ive had mine from new (8 miles on clock but officially 2nd owner), now on 42k. (57 plate) no problems really. (had an issue with a driveshaft unknown cause) other than that been a reliable truck. loads of space very versatile. comfy enough. no real corrosion issues but could do with the chassis repainting. the 4x4 auto mode is superb on winter icey/tarmac/snowy roads. its a tough work horse of a truck really. im happy with mpg 26-32. I wont tell you how much i paid for this as itll only cause upset.

Thanks all....general feeling I'm getting is that 9 times out of 10 I should be able to pick up a reasonably reliable motor bearing in mind I'll be going for the newer 190 bhp facelift version with average mileage. If I'm unlucky and research on the particular vehicle fails me I could get a dog....I'm hoping that with 30-40k on the clock any niggles from new would be ironed out and still fairly low miles (my last few cars have all been bought with over 75k)....aiming to buy in summer so will update.....keep any comments coming though.

My only issues have been both front interior door handles broke.

What i thought could have been the camchain is imho injector rattle.

Fuel consumption in the Euro 4 automatics with dpf is woeful.

I got a slight improvement after reading the workshop manual and switching to an A5/B5 rated oil. I made sure the saps were below 1.0 in order to protect the dpf C1 oil is pricey.

The oil i chose was Mobil Super 3000 X1 FE 5w30 which is under ÂŁ25 for 5 litres

Apart from tyres a set of pads all round and oil and filters it has been reliable.

Mine had 90k on it when bought and is now just over 118k i think.

I just bought mine in February. '10 Tekna connect premium with 10k miles. Only 'issue' so far was a recall on a rear diff part when it just went in for the annual service last month. Nissan ended up replacing the whole rear diff. My local nissan dealer was brilliant. Loving it so far...

We have had our 2014 190ps for about a month...wifey pootling around gets 33mpg I get around 29. Our is a manual and I wish I had gone for the auto. My wife loves it compared to the D2 V8 she had.
Discoveries are money pits unless you buy new and offload it before the 3 warranty runs out..that was from a landrover specialist.

Thanks all - minds made up! Tekna 190 Auto all the way. Hoping to pick up a MY11 for circa ÂŁ18k Sept/Oct with avg mileage (30-45k). Needs to be Silver or Grey (as I like the colour!) though so may need some patience unless I'm lucky when the time comes.

Thanks again for the input, keep your eyes peeled for updates in a few months.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but I'm after a Pathfinder not a Navara.....also need a few more months to save the cash as I'm only expecting about ÂŁ1.50 trade in for my Saab 93 :thumbright:

Cheers

Hi - still chipping away at this and aiming for Aug/Sept.

When looking at photos on various websites it appears like the seat covers are generally black but the dash seems to differ between black or grey - is this just the light or are there different interior colour options on the post 2010 Tekna?

Thanks
