Re: My List of what to do when I buy a second hand vehicle D

I prefer Havoline oil but thats just perference. I use Mann filters and have no problems, only thing i would reccomend is using genuine Nissan oil filter. It has some ******** valve or something in it that means you have to buy a Nissan one as i belive the repro's dont. Having said that, i ran mann oil filters for 6,000 miles without problems, i was just reccomended to use a genuine nissan oil filter and for the price difference you might aswell.

The other thing is to clean the MAF with contact cleaner and check the wheel bearings.

Rich

Thanks mate.. I will use 1 of the filters just for the cleaner oil run of max 1000 miles and order a Nissan filter..

MAF?

And will add wheel bearing to the list..

Re: My List of what to do when I buy a second hand vehicle D

A few other specifics where the D40 has vulnerabilities:

Check front wheel bearings for any play
Check for any oil leaks around the rear hubs
Check the front of the engine sump for corrosion or damage
Check alternator bearings and lubricate the pulley
Check exhaust heat shield/protector at the front of the exhaust system
Check cruise control doesn't drop out when you wiggle the gearstick in 4th or 6th
Check any aftermarket wiring, particularly towbar wiring
Check operation of 4x4 system and warning lights.

I wonder why you recommend the brand names - it is always reassuring but can be pricey.

Thanks Landmannnn .. Not recommending anything my friend.. As I say, I just cut and paste my order form for speed..

I am having probs with all the buttons on my steering wheel so I have to look up the oem number somewhere to find out which clock spring collar I need....

Biggi, if you did post something similar to this then I couldn't find it.. Is this post original? No, because I took what I could find on the forum and the owners manual, amalgamated them in a simple easy to follow list and then asked if it was complete/correct. I then received feedback and was grateful for it.. What prompted the post?

No service manual yet
A cheap d40 with dubious past and oil like charcoal water..
Me spending hours searching this forum and not finding a consolidated list..
Pholding2001 reiterating my thoughts on how it would be nice just to have a single mail that sums up that first week of what to do's...

Sorry I couldn't find your post Biggi but it weren't from lack of trying.. Maybe your post should be made a sticky title "things to check before you buy and things to do after you buy"?

Oooh look, I found it for you :adminfinger

Not that it's a problem, I just think you should credit folk in your posts rather than claiming knowledge yourself.
It's kinda N'etiquette to quote the O/P
My post was by far a full an complete post, just merely enough to get a new vehicle purchaser on his way with a list of things to do.
A complete vehicle (large) service would be far more than even everyone else has added to my post.
