Hi all,

As I mentioned in a previous post, I took the plunge and bought a 2005 D40 Trek. I´ve spent far too long on this forum looking through all the posts and keep coming across endless things which seem to help the general running of Navaras. Does anyone have any suggestions of things which could make up a checklist for those who have just bought a Navara that can be carried out easily and with "how to´s" on this forum?

For example, I came across these:

1. Cleaning the airflow sensor (viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12607)

2. Resetting the ECU (viewtopic.php?f=47&t=5786)

Can anyone add to this list with things of a similar nature that would be good to do when you first get your Navara (and of course thereafter)?

Many thanks

Thanks Biggi. What would you say is a full and complete service?

- New oil and oil filter
- New fuel filter
- New air filter
- New pollen filter

Anything else? I´m trying to compile this list with the owner in mind as the person who carries out the jobs and therefore basic car knowledge and not a lot of time is assumed (upto a couple of hours per job) and more advanced things being done with the aid of the "how to´s" on this forum.

It would be very helpful to avoid all encompassing terms and specify each job to avoid personal interpretation of what people mean.

Front diff oil,Rear diff oil,Gearbox oil, transfer box oil.
Check condition of and adjust rear brakes,
Check front brakes for free sliding calipers, pad & disc wear, piston seals.
Check all steering and suspension joints for play/lift.
Check propshaft universal joints.
Check tyres for un-even wear.
Oil / grease all moving parts (door locks/hinges etc)
Test or change anti-freeze.
Check drive belts (tension & condition)

A general good coat of looking over.
Then you know where you are with the vehicle and what's been done.
Ignore the silly 18000 mile service that Nissan suggest and work on 6000miles for oil/oil filter & fuel filters.

Chassis rot, timing chains, transfer switches & dual mass flywheels are the weak points that cost you money.
When the dual mass fails, replace it with an exedy solid conversation.
Blast clean the chassis and Waxoil it.

Don't waste your time and money on bling/light bars/ice until your motor is mechanically sound.

Agree with everything Martins said above, plus play in the wheel bearings and leaks around the diff pinions/ half shaft seals/transfer box flange outputs and cleaning the MAF as you previously mentioned.

Only thing i would disagree with is to use wayoyl over dinitrol :happy0071

If you can do it all yourself it will save you a fortune!

Great post - might be useful to have separate categories too:
- what someone without special tools/knowledge could do
- what someone with a few special tools and a bit of help could do
- what needs special gear/a garage

:)

It was merely a quick guide to get him on his way rich..
Not a full and detailed service schedule

I gave mine a really good steam clean from the underside, good wire brush then checked all electrical connections and sprayed with WD40, then gave a good liberal coat of underbody Shultz. Looks like new now.... hopefully it will last as it was a good few days work to do it right.
