Hi there,

I have just bought an 08 navara and on the way home it will not rev past 3500 in 3rd gear. I don't think it is an engine problem as all other gears are fine. Has anyone seen this before?

Davie.

That's not right and there's no straightforward way of diagnosing the issue.

Was it a trade or private sale?

You could be here a while so it would really be appreciated if you visited the 'Introduce yourself' section to tell us more about your new toy and yourself (include your location), you'll get a warm welcome and more of the membership will be willing to join in to help. :thumbright: :thumbright:

Similar symptoms on the manual gearbox version point to the Neutral position switch (NPS) being worn but I am not sure if the auto box has one. :dunno

You could try a OBDII reader to see if there are any stored fault codes or do what we call the pedal dance to look for fault codes;

You may as well take the truck back to get them to do the work though. You don't want to be accused of interfering with the truck so they can wriggle out of their responsibilities.

Good luck, keep us posted with progress, this may be a fault we haven't heard of :pale:

We could guess all day long, our usual method of helping resolve a problem is to change some parts and carry out checks. You really don't want to be interfering with the vehicle, it is up to the garage to sort your problem(s) out.

It may be nothing worse than a dirty fuel filter or it could be as bad as a dodgy turbo.

As I said before, you could try to read any fault codes, this will not affect your warranty.

This is a symptom of a faulty neutral switch.
You can check this switch with ohmmeter.. disconnect the neutral switch connector and check for electrical resistance of the swtich in neutral and in various gears, when in N it should be close circuit (close to zero ohm resistance).

So stupid of me...Didn't notice it is automatic transmission! Disregard my previous reply.
For automatic it is much more complicated and I would start by counting all gear shifts, are you having all 5 gears or maybe trany jumping from second gear to four or five?
Check fluids level and fault codes.
