I have to fit day time running lights (DRL's) to my 2007 Navara.
Obviously I want them to come on automatically when I start the engine and was wondering where to take the power from?
I will use the sidelight power to turn the DRL's off when driving at night.
Is there an easy place that I can take the power? both for the lights and for the acc feed?

Black 3 pin plug next to the fuel filter, from memory ant remember which pin, but one is ignition switched..

If like me that plug near the fuel filter is missing then run your live into the cab via the wing and through the door wiring harness aperture and connect to ignition switched power socket on the dash.

Thanks guys, Yes Bob like you I don't have the socket by the fuel filter.
I don't want to run a line back into the car, so does anyone know of a switched power supply in the engine bay that I could use?

:D :D You can connect it to the wiper motor live when ignition is on they will light up :D :D
This one no good then.

Mine where wired to the wiper motor live, never had any problems. :thumbright:

Isn't this going to be the same sort of problem described by Rich in the thread about reversing lights. If you use, for example, the wiper circuit, you're adding the load of the DRLs on to a circuit where you don't actually know if the guauge of the wiring is suitable for that load. Auto electrics is not an area of knowledge for me but what Rich warned about made sense to me. If the wire guauge is not high enough, then even if you update the fuse, you run the risk of the wiper circuit overheating and possibly an electrical fire?

Exactly dsajones hit the nail on the head, I don't really want to overload anything, but at the same time I need a relatively simple ignition switched power source. I am afraid the only option open to me is to run a wire to the cigarette lighter, but I was trying to avoid doing that.

I found an ignition live fuse in the lefthand side fuse box (righthand if looking in)
Can't remember the fuse number I'll have a look over the weekend for you but its timed , stays on for 2-3seconds after shut off
I've run my drls from it for just over a year with no problems

Whilst the principle is the same as i previously mentioned, the loads of DRL's is drastically less than the load of some of the reversing lights people were wiring directly into the reverse light circuits. Im unaware of the wiper circuit that is being suggested here, so dont know the current ratings to make a sugestion from as i had the plug above the fuel filter. If its a concern to you, you can still use the wiper feed as a signal to trigger a relay wired to the battery.

What are the DRL's you're planning on using? i'll try and be a bit more useful if you can provide some specs.

Here is the DRL kit, it's quite simple, but should work for me, each lamp has 5 x 1W LED's

Ok here's a couple of options for you. (although this is for a 2012 I'm pretty sure my old 2007 was the same)

In the relay box behind the air box.

There is switched power that is capable of power your DLR's.

Inside the box there is two 10amp fuses that are ign switched.

Now you have two options from here.

1st option lift the top part of the box off and tee into the yellow feed wire adding an inline fuse.

2nd option is to get your hands on a piggy back inline fuse holder and tee into the fuse box itself.
See next post for pictures.

Fuse holder in place with factory fuse awaiting fuse and conection to DLR wire.
[attachment=1:eby3lhgl]20141101_123602.jpg[/attachment:eby3lhgl]

This is the easiest place to pick up ign switched power as the wires going into relay box aren't 100% sealed so it's easy enough to run another wire in there and it's close to the front so you don't have to run a long wire.

Hope this helps.

Thanks JPMC, I have now fitted the DRL's which work perfectly, check them out :)
