I bought a navara tekna 2010 with black smoke on acceleration. Has had full service, engine terra clean and a new turbo, but still smokes. Garage told me the smoke will continue until oil has burned out of the system, have done 200 miles and still smokes just as bad. Any ideas where I should go next. Engine diagnostics show no fault codes.

This guide is a good starting point, just make sure your garage did what they said they did  (filters); viewtopic.php?f=14&t=103010

Excess black smoke is generally the engine struggling to get enough fresh air or there is a boost leak. Check your turbo hoses to and from the intercooler for leaks (there is normally an oily stain if they are leaking). The intercooler is worth checking and can be seen easily by removing the front grill.

Oh and :+1 for everything landmannnn has said.

I have a similar problem with my 2009 2.5 Pathfinder. It smokes when pulling a load uphill (caravan) and also on hard acceleration. I've cleaned the MAF, fitted a new K&N Air Filter, and blocked the EGR. I had a look in the turbo, and it had some black stuff in there, but it was dry, not oily.

Any suggestions?

Apart from losing your radio preset stations, there are no drawbacks doing an ECU reset.

Try a hard reset.

I've been noticing similar black smoke lately on my 2010 Tekna Auto. It's had a K&N filter and I checked the MAF at the same time which was clean as a whistle. There is some oily sooty deposit under the turbo pipe but I can't find a leak. I did a soft reset today and that seems to have improved matters somewhat, and I could convince myself it's picking up better too. 'Farting' noise from the near side of the engine bay is still there though (as discussed here).

I have cleaned the MAF, Ecu reset, but seems to smoke more than ever, must be something simple that ive missed, still does 30mpg and goes like a train, just smokes like one too!
Any further suggestions much appreciated, i would love to be able to give it some welly without all the soot behind

I have now cleaned the maf, all new filters, full engine terraclean and new turbocharger. Ecu hard and soft resets, injector cleaner and EGR blank, no fault codes showing on full bosch diagnostics, but she still smokes!
Some mechanics say they all smoke, and all say navaras will always be trouble. I just cant find an honest garage that knows what they are doing and can troubleshoot the problem.
There must be an answer somewhere?

Navaras will always be trouble, in other words go away and stop bothering me.

My thoughts ...
Boost control, not sure whether your is a vacuum or electronic, but if vacuum the boost control solenoid might benefit from a rinse.
MAF. Not unknown for these to lose their performance, ÂŁ30 will get a new one so worth getting a replacement if only to rule it out.
Injectors, getting pricey, but you could get them checked by a diesel specialist.

Worth if for elimination purposes I think.
