Hi Guys
Tried to change front brake pads on d40 Aventura on Saturday but couldn't get calliper to move, Didn't want to force anything in case I was doing something wrong. I removed the bottom bolt and tried tapping the calliper upwards but wouldn't budge, Is their another pin or bolt to remove.
Thanks

no it should have swung upwards, but you need to push the pistons fully home so that the pads clear any lip on the discs. for this i use two of those diy clamps (cant remember what they are called)

you need to push the pistons fully home anyway, and i find it easiest doing it first off.

I normally remove top and bottom bolts. this way you get right into the pad retaining clips which are better off either replaced or taken out and cleaned up, and uny rust removed that potentially will hold the pads too tightly.

(i assume you tried to swing the caliper up by just removing one bolt?)

i always fit a new pad fitting kit every time. after re-using in the past i've had a lot of grief with squeaky/squealing brakes, and for all the cost just fit a new kit nowadays and get gaurentee peace and quiet.

note regardless of one bolt out or two, youll still need to compress the pistons to get the pads over the lip on the disks, and its good practice to fit new discs every second pad change.

You might have to use a bit of brute strength and ignorance to get the calliper and pads off the disc. I usually replace the discs at the same time as the pads. I use a G cramp to push the pistons back, although others have managed by hand.

This might help; viewtopic.php?f=45&t=14253
