i am thinking of buying a d22 , 2005 72000 miles,it needs an engine, can anyone recommend some one? as it seems to be a mine field of people that recon these engines, i am in aberdeenshire, thanks stevie

You are right about the recon industry being a minefield with regards to the D22 and D40 engines.

The one and only place that we know has a 100% record for reliability are Billcar in Shrewsbury. http://www.billcar.eu/BillCar.Limited/en/

They are not cheap but they do know what they are doing. If you decide to have a go yourself we can help, there is a wealth of information on here.

Whatever you do, do not use a reground crankshaft though.

As long as one of the rods hasn't broken the block with a bit of luck you may have a minimal amount to replace. A new crankshaft will be needed if the journals get scored so the easy answer is such it and see.

These two threads should help;

As I said, we'll be here to help and one of our longer standing members (Chris Vince) is the one that worked out what was causing the problem and how to fix it. :bowdown1

has anyone one just changed bearings????
Yes, if there is NO damage to the crank.

why not use a reground crank?
The case hardening on the Nissan crankshaft is very thin, when it is re-ground it breaks through the hardening. Reground cranks often snap within a very short time and usually within 12 months.
