Hi, back in 2013 I reversed my Nav Aventura 2007, into our driveway wall and stoved the rear drivers wing in pretty badly (I did post on here at the time pics etc).

Anyway, my Insurer gave me a garage to use for the repairs and off it went, there was lots of messing around by them with not getting it done in time etc but I won't bore you with that.

After about 10mths I noticed that the spray job on the wing was dull and that it was now bubbling on the wheel arch, I took it back and they agreed and had it back in and re-did it all, 7mths later I'm in the same boat again, paint has bubbled through in exactly the same place!
This time I went via my insurer and advised that I'd heard bad reports about the garage and that I didn't want them to do the work again, however the Insurer insisted and despite my arguing I buckled and let them do it, this was back in Feb of this year and much to my disappointment it has now bubbled through again in exactly the same spot and this time it lasted just over 6mths!!

The garage are saying that it's rust, however there's no rust on my truck at all and I have challenged them to find any!!

My argument is that even if it was rust (which it isn't) surely they should do a good enough job for it not to come back, I mean if I had a classic car that need some paint on it or rust treatment you'd expect it to last years wouldn't you?

I have since made a formal complaint via the Financial Ombudsmen and I am now being told that I need to get an independent inspection which I will do next week.

My insurer is Adrian Flux but I have to say they have been outstanding, the policy is underwritten by AVIVA and they have been an absolute JOKE.. The Garage (an even bigger JOKE is Fix Auto.

Please let me have your honest opinions.

Thank you,

Jamie.

Get the independent inspection done and go from there. If it's in your favour you should be on a winner. If not I wouldn't hold out much hope to be honest. Whoever you get to do the inspection just make sure they are reputable so there isn't any chance of the garage or the insurers getting out of the report.

It does sound like a poor quality job. I had crash damage repaired a few years ago (hit another deer). :faint The repaired panels are still as good as new.

Is it not the case that all the D40 body panels except the roof are galvanised?

Was the repair about bashing out the old wing, and making good, or a new panel?

If the wing had been scratched down to bare steel, and if this is a galvanised panel, then I reckon they may not have pre-treated correctly before the paint coats and you might be getting an electrolytic effect.

If it's a new panel, it might be a cheap pattern part and inherently rusty in the steel (like Alfasuds were!)

Either way, it's shoddy, and a company to avoid. I thought normally you could go to a shop of your choice, but would have to the difference - is that not the case?

Let's hope the report slams the body shop.

Trouble is all insurance companies "recommended" repairers are usually rubbish and on a kick back from various sources. You don't have to use the one they say no matter how much they tell you you have too! You can take it anywhere to get the repair done.

If this was the rear wing would that be on the "tub"?
If so ask your insurance about a buy out as you don't trust there garage. Then see if you can find a breakers to fit a replacement tub
Failing that I'm sure I read somewhere that you don't have to use the recommended garage for insurance repairs if you have a valid reason
Have we not still got a Adrian flux rep as a member somewere?

I assume the rear wing or wheel arch is the single pressing the makes the tub side. It is steel, not plastic and spot welded fore and aft....

Thank you to everyone for their input on this and sorry I haven't been back to update you.

I took my Truck to a few paint specialists and they were all of the same opinion so I therefore arranged for an independent inspection with a company called AIA at a cost to me of ÂŁ180, their report confirmed what I had already been told and they advised that the paint job was of a very poor standard (Dull, Orange Peel and dirt in the paint) they then confirmed that in their opinion the paint bubbling issue is caused by a seam on the wing being split on the initial impact and going unnoticed by the repairer (AutoFix) therefore allowing water to penetrate and bubble through the paint work.

However AVIVA have now advised that they are I=unwilling to look into it any further as their decision is final!!!

The Ombudsmen are being too much help either to be fair and seem to just roll over on the side of AVIVA..

As I've always said there is no rust on my truck at all and was none on the wing prior to the accident, it has only started to bubble through since they did the repair work.

I'm not looking to gain anything from all of this, all I want is for the paint on my truck to not bubble and blister!!

Cheers,

Jamie..

Hi,
Please feel free to drop me a line with your policy details. I can have a word with our claims manager to see what he has to say on the matter.
Regards,
Dan.
Hi, Dan I am unable to PM you for some reason as the messages just remain in my Outbox, if you read this please can you PM me to see if I am then able to reply.

Thank you.

Jamie.

fix it yourself and claim via small claims from the garage, you have the reports to back it up and they have had ample opportunity to repair/correct the work, if you pay for your insurance monthly it will be via a credit agreement, in which case you can also pressurise the finance company as they are equally liable for your insurance and the service you get, personally i would just get nissan to fix it and bill them but advise beforehand, they will always buckle before it gets to court, get a full Quote and a cost of a hire car plus of course your time and pass this all on to Aviva dont let them get away with it.

As stated you do not have to use the garage they want you too its your choice but you may not get a courtesy car as part of the conditions.
