The navigation system and monitor is operating ok but no audio voice or beep sounds .

When I press the 3 buttons DISC, MUSIC BOX and AUX nothing happens. The DISC player will take a cd in but there is no sound or anything on the monitor screen.

When I press the FM-AM button the radio screen shows and if I press menu and try to load stations nothing happens, so no radio.

When I press the setting screen then Navigation, Bluetooth, Display, Clock and Other are bold and can be selected. Audio, Phone, Volume and beeps are all greyed out and cannot be selected. I cannot pair the phone to Bluetooth.

The associated remote controls on the left hand side of the steering wheel for voice command etc. do not work.

I have tried pressing the power on of button and turning the volume control, it does not seem to make any difference.

Any ideas on what might be causing the problem and how to resolve it?

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

Can you get to the reset mode in settings, should reboot from there and might help. Otherwise it may be something to do with the steering column squib connecting the steering wheel.

Thanks for the reply. I can't find a rest mode in settings. I will look at the steering column tomorrow.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

It's sorted.

Did a hard reset by removing the -ve battery terminal overnight. Reconnected the terminal this morning and radio and audio systems fully restored. I was not expecting the hard reset to reset the audio system and was ready to start removing panel to check connectors and voltage outputs.

Thank you for the help

Regards

Jeff

That's good news as I can't find the reset button now, I've seen it before but it must be hidden in a sub menu somewhere. Glad it's sorted and yes removing power will do a reset as it would for any PC driven system as it is just really a lap top in the dash.

Back to square one. It has gone off again. Checked cables, fuses, all seem ok. Starting to look like software problems.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

Oh dear, doesn't sound good I'm afraid, is it not under warranty?
This seems to be Nissans biggest problem, they design something quite good but build it from ****.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

3 year warranty finished beginning of last month. It looks like there are a number of similar problems raised in the U.S across Nissan vehicles that have required a software upgrade, so I will contact Nissan support as a next step. If anyone in the U.K has or has had a similar problem can you please post.

Left the battery off again, this time for 18 hrs. What do you know the audio is back up and running! Fingers crossed.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

The sound went off again. I took it to a auto electrician who reckoned it was a faulty head unit.

By luck.
Last weekend I was replacing a badly rusted 12n and 12s electrics bracket, and had to remove the 12n socket as the screws were too badly corroded to unscrew them. Surprise, surprise, once I had removed it and connected the original 2 plugs - non trailer back together (back of rear wheel, passenger side) sound back on radio, music box, cd aux fully restored, can talk on the mobile, use the left hand steering controls etc. It has been ok all week. I still don't understand why as I don't see the systems have any related connectivity, unless the corroded 12n socket has been causing an earthing issue in some way.

Hope the curse of Halloween doesn't strike it into inaction over the week-end.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

Mine is in at the dealer today to look at what seems to be a very similar issue.

What happens with mine is that the left steering controls stop working, the main headunit starts freezing up and then what I assume is that when start pushing the steering controls the headunit can at times go haywire and freeze up. I think its the clock spring causing a short or spurious signal(s) and the headunit ends up to busy to deal with anything else and or throws a wobbler.

I've been booked in for a month, and in that time its come back to work completely fine on two occasions for a week, but always comes back. Guess what it was like when the car got picked an hour ago! :faint

I realize you have a fix, but just wanted to add that software is often blamed unfairly for spurious faults. Sure, almost all software has bugs that can show up, but the the thing is, a given version of software always works exactly the same on hundreds of thousands of vehicles. This means given the same provocations or sequence of events, any bugs will show up on ALL those vehicles - no vehicle is singled out behaving uniquely or randomly. If that happens, the fault is hardware, and indeed with this posting, rusty connectors are implicated although the reason is not obvious. It could be that noise is generated that confuses CANbus signalling (or whatever Navs use).

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

When it was dropping out the other week and screen freezing I started thinking it might be a fault on the clock spring as the left hand controls were not working.
I know it has been an issue with Frontera's in the U.S and head units have been replaced and in quite a few cases the amps apparently because water has got into them under the passenger seat (in one case because the sun roof was left open and it when rained into the truck.

But as it is started operating Ok following the removal of the 12n socket and wiring, I have driven for a 3 or 4 hours over the last week with no problems so have discounted the clock spring as a potential cause.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

All stable and working fine. Glad I didn't go near a Nissan dealer, suspect I would have a bill in the region of ÂŁ1k and a new head unit I didn't need.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

after the dealer phoned when the car was in and said they couldn't find a fault, I advised that it normally starts with pressing the phone/voice button and they were going back for another look before delivering the car back. since they never called back I assumed it was status quo, however I've just had an email saying a new steering wheel controls are ordered under warranty and i'm booked in for the 20th.

Everything working fine for me at the moment also.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

Just as well it is under warranty.
Sounds like they are stumped and have jumped on what you have said re the voice/phone button and decided to replace the associated control unit to see if that stops reoccurrence.

The posts I read on the U.S sites re the problems they have had in the States and moving the warrantee to 5 years over there on the units suggest Nissan have struggled with their fault finding in identifying the cause(s) of issues and have bowed to pressure.

Fortunately mine is operating 100% now.

Re: Sound, radio, Bluetooth and left hand steering control i

the joys of the warranty. I've suffered problems with my last pathy, and instead of being persistent with the dealer I've let it go, then outside warranty being stung for ÂŁ1500 notes. Changed days. the slightest fault will be carried through to total satisfaction. I'm in agreement that the steering control's probably wont fix it, but at least it will rule it out for the next time! if it is the headunit which sounds like an expensive repair, I definitely wont sit back and put up with it!
