hi brand new here right thinking of buying a navara or a l200 the navara is a 2001 plate and the l200 is the same the nissan has done 90,000 and the l200 137,000 just for a work horse what should i look for in the navara ie engine number..has the 2001 shape got the same engine problem as the 2002 and is it the same shape or is it worth getting saving that bit extra and getting the 03 plate one that is local with 90,000 cause the shapes look a bit different .....getting really confused with all the faults that the web throws up .....PLEASE HELP

The 2001 will have the older 2.5td engine that does not suffer from engine problems. The 2003 will have the YD25 engine which is the one that can blow but many dont, it will look differant as after 2002 the YD25 engine was put in and it was also given a face lift.

Out of the three vehicles, from characteristics in general (Obviously I havent seen the actual vehicles) I would go for the 2001 D22, There is not a huge amount of difference between the D22 in terms of being a work vehicle and you have more reliable engine and bit more cash spare.

I would choose a D22 over a L200 any day! L200 are guttles but eat fuel, have more mechanical problems and are costly to repair, eat glow plugs........ just wouldent bother with that one!

I have never owned a L200 - But - I pulled into a garage in my D22 and a stranger approached me and said that he previously had Navs -but bought a L200 for a change.

He said the L200 was gutless, drank fuel, and wondered if I would like to swap. Well, you can probably guess what my answer was -putting it politely -A Big fat NO!
In my opinion - Stick with a Nav with the engine mods done.
Pete

It seems a bit silly to come onto a Navara forum and ask which pick-up to have, there is only going to be one answer surely :D

But I read everything I could before getting my Nav and they seem head and shoulders above anything else in the catergory according to independant reviews etc.

So once again I would say Nav as well.
