Hi all,

Well, the truck was faultless on the journey to and from Bulgaria last week (and towing a 2.4 tonne boat on the way back). Very pleased indeed.

I was going to change the front and rear diff oils. Now I have bought the manual online and was looking at the different oils that are recommended. On reading the manual, it appears to me that they are saying to use the same oil for both the front and the rear. This is what the manual says:

Standard differential gear:
Gear Oil Hypoid LSD (Part No.: KLD31-8090403)
or API GL-5, Viscosity SAE 80W-90*1

Limited-slip differential (LSD) gear:
Gear Oil Hypoid LSD (Part No. KLD31-8090403)
or equivalent

However, on reading this forum, a different oil is recommended for the front vs the rear:

Front Dif:
Comma EP80w90 GL-5

Rear Dif:
Comma LS80w90 GL-5

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Many thanks

The rear axle is an LSD so needs the LSD oil, the front can use 'normal' gear oil.

Obviously Nissan are saying it is ok to put LSD oil in both axles. However this can be more expensive than the normal oil hence the recommendation.

Hi Coddy,

I strongly recommend getting the working manual. It really is great. I bought it on ebay for something like GBP 5. Well worth the investment.

Once you have that, there are illustrations showing where to drain and refill e.t.c. I have no knowledge of cars, so I just looked at the illustration and then looked under the car to find the corresponding shape and then you locate the filler and drain plugs and away you go.

As I have been advised, always undo the filler plug first to make sure you can get it undone before you drain the oil. Mine were on really tight and I had to use the limits of my force to get them undone. I invested in a torque wrench to put them back on. The manual gives you the correct torque setting to tighten them to. At least I´ll be able to get them off a lot more easily next time. At least that is the idea anyway. We´ll see.

Just be sure you get the write amouts in each box and follow the manual if doing the gearbox as shop i used had different oil listed when did mine locked 2 gear up until warm they changed it without question but had to leave in truck for 24 hrs and sat with engine running for 20mins before went anywhere

quick question please

Its stamped on the diffs what oil is needed !

I'm going to change my rear and front diff oil.... while attempting to do so. I noticed the manual had lSD 75w-90 synthetic. I bought those.... now on the diff (rear) I notice this stamped ... 75w-145 synthetic ..... so what should I do in this case any feed back would be greatly appreciated thanks
