Hi all as title says from manchester and currently looking for a navara i have always had vans so was after some help and advice really plus am.not the best at cars\vans i wanted to know if any of you have the new np300 would you recomend over the older shape say on like a 12+ reg i have to say at the min i do like the look off the older one at min but that could change once i have seen on in fresh any hints or tips would be great thanks again .

Hi and welcome, :welcome

We have a few reviews of the (New model) NP300 from the new owners which obviously is quite positive at the moment.

We have quite a few members that have the (older) D40 that are not convinced about the specifications especially the smaller 2.3 litre engine. There is a 3.0 litre V6 available for the D40 that has a very good reliability record.

It all depends on what you want to do with a Navara, if you're towing heavy loads, the V6 is the way to go. Otherwise the decision has to be taken with economy, value for money and comfort in mind.

Hopefully some of the guys that have traded up from the D40 to the NP300 will be able to give you more food for thought.

Thanks mate ill see what they have to say i dont really need the van space as much now so the navara is ideal as i also need 5 seats wouldnt really be do any towing but never say never just from what i read the later models are better with fuel

They are, everything from 2010 onwards is better with fuel and the NP300 should be potentially better. Remeber that with a new NP300 you'll get an extended warranty and servicing deal as well.

Regarding the towing, the NP300 is actually rated with a higher towing limit than the D40, and should be fine for 'normal' sized trailers. The guys I was referring to, want the extra ponies the V6 offers to tow massive 5th wheel caravans. (Look at Kasey's garage above this post)

From what people are saying the 44 mpg claim on the new model is more like 35, so a couple more than the old model. Not in itself a reason to choose the new one.
If you are used to vans/cars you will find pickups are a bit limiting on space..
Not a lot of space in the rear seats
Pickup bed is quite small and not flexible for large or long things.

I do like the look of the older model and regarding space i am only use to having 3 seats had a vaviaro sportive so with twins on way needed extra room plus i dont need the length of my lwb van anymore plus the navara looks a beast

Hi plasterer10
My ten bobs worth.
All the double cabs have pretty much the same load area, depends on whether you're after roll top or snug top. I've got 2012 D40 V6 and originally justified my choice thinking I'd go for a fifth wheel trailer, well plans change, but have to say I wouldn't change my choice. Powerful refined engine mated to a 7 speed auto box, high low ratio 4wd, pretty much all the toys as standard and as for fuel consumption, well that depends on my right foot. From what I've read about the 2.5s I don't think there's much in it, fuel wise.

If you want a truck for work and Sunday best, I don't think you can go far wrong and now the NP300 is out, the second-hand prices are dropping.:partycheer:

Well B4badger almost said it all. You want the newest truck available then the Np300 will do all the work for you. Regarding the towing, i still can't believe having a truck with less power and still towing more? if you want max tow capability then go for the V6! The power is addictive. The ride in the Np300 is better.

Conclusion: Test drive a D40 & Np300 and then you have to decide for yourself. Let us know what you'll choose :cheers2:

And another thing...

My opinion.
If I wanted a vehicle that handled like a car with storage space, there's some smart powerful estates out there, BMW, Merc, Volvo etc The D40 has pretty good road manners for a truck and esp keeps the back end in check.
The other thing is ÂŁ225 road tax for 3.0 V6 4wd with the level of comfort and refinement is none too shabby.
Finished now.
Enjoy your choice, whatever you go for.:grin2:
