NP300 Need Hardtop Advice

Hello All,

I'm new to the site and have a new NP300 on order which is due to be delivered mid April.

I need to buy a hard top for it but as it's a new model, there doesn't seem to be that much choice yet. Can anyone recommend a decent quality one at all?

I will be carrying my dog in the back (crated) so need something with good ventilation ideally but still nice and secure (ideally solid framed rear door & windows) and one that's a good fit.

I was looking at the Pegasus Avantgarde but have read a horror story review of the company on here so am wary now.......

Any tips gratefully received.

Cheers

Darren

Just to add, I appreciate that people may not have an NP300 top yet but I'd like to gauge the quality and feedback on maybe D40 tops as I'm sure they'll be similar.

Would love to hear your experiences of Snugtop, Truckman etc if possible........

All the best

D

My truck is almost 9 year old now, it has a Snug top fitted that I assume has been on from new. Quite happy with it although the window catches are a bit flimsy. I've had the top on an off a couple of times without drama.

It might be worth speaking with theses guys for a steel top, there might be a forum discount going as well. http://www.nissan-navara.net/63-direct4x4/31655-sammitr-steel-canopies.html

I went for the nissan top, expensive but I think excellent. Side windows and gets wired in to central locking and lights as well. Really pleased with mine. There is an advert for a np300 in black on the for sale section.

Truckman are good tops have had several . they come all wired up for central locking etc and half the price of the Nissan one . Nissan have really upset the top retailers particularly snugtop with whom they have dealt with for years. I am certainly having another truckman on mine I dont think you can get better value for money.

Are the Truckman tops fairly secure - I'm a bit wary of tops that don't have properly framed hatches & windows? I appreciate that if someone wants to get in, they'll get in but just want to make it as difficult for them as possible.

Maybe I'm overthinking it all a bit............

I've ordered the Pegasus avantguard hardtop for my new NP 300, I've also heard bad reviews of the company, too late now as they have my deposit, so far they have been excellent over the phone, managed to get a tailgate mechanism thrown into the deal for free! I have one in stock that they are holding onto as the delay in getting the new vehicle is longer than planned, they where familiar with the problem and fine about it, I'll take some pics and add my comments about the service they offer as soon as I can, fingers crossed ?

Phil, you've done well on that deal with Pegasus - they would only offer me free fitting of the tailgate assist and wouldn't budge on the price no matter how hard I pushed them on it!

It's a shame as I'd pretty much decided to go with them despite not getting a deal from them until I read that review and it threw too much doubt into the mix - it still looks like the most secure & well made top available including the premium Nissan one that I looked at last night (IMO)!

Get my NP300 in three weeks. Finding it really hard to decide. Have an aeroklass on my ranger and really like its minimalism. They do one for the NP300 as well but cannot make my mind up.

On my previous D40 I had a Snugtop fitted at a good price by a dealer and really liked its look. I like the new Nissan one and like the idea of central locking on it however the price is too high I think. I presume the retail price excludes fitting?

I contacted Snugtop directly and they advised one was coming out from them in Mar/Apr and again only available through dealers. No prices have been set yet by Nissan and my dealer has no knowledge of it. They sent me a pic which is pretty poor and I'm thinking it's got a bit too much fibreglass and too little glazing.

Any ideas/help greatly appreciated.

Hello Kev, unfortunately, the only top I've actually managed to see fitted is the Nissan Premium one and to be honest, I was't impressed at all - the fit didn't look great, no sliding bulkhead window and the dealer couldn't get the tailgate locked when I was there! Also extortionately expensive.

Do you find the Aeroklass to be solid & secure enough - I'm guessing you've had no issues by the sound of it? No roof bars on the NP300 one by the looks of the website though :(

The clock is ticking as my vehicle is due in two weeks and I won't be bale to use it as I want to without the canopy but don't want to buy something for the sake of it - nightmare!

Hi,

The aeroKlas top has been fine. I like the sleek look of it. I dont like roof rails on my hardtops unless like the chunky Snugtop rails that matched the D40's rails exactly.

We are in the same boat. I think I could manage a couple of months without a hardtop and might just wait a bit for more to be released.

Phil, when is your NP300 due in - keen to know how you get on :thumbright:

The 18th April into dealership, so should be ready a couple of days later, as I'm having a towbar fitted and the usual paint protection pack treatment, not confident though about it being on time after reading some of the delays people are experiencing.
As soon as it arrives I'll post some pics, it's a black one again and will have my same registration plate on so only people who are aware of the model difference will probably notice I've swapped it !

I've got a couple of NP300's arriving in May and need hard tops but with hard sides. As well as having glass sides I wasn't too keen on the looks of the one from Nissan.

I opted for the Road Ranger Elite unglazed, see link.

I like the fact the rear window is fitted into a panel, looks more secure than a single glass panel. I hope it looks as good in the flesh as the pictures.

One other option my dealer could supply was the Truckman RS but when I spoke to Truckman they did say it was still in development and seemed a bit basic for the price, no central locking on the rear hatch.

Whatever you go for I think there's very few off the shelf with most on at least a 4 week lead time.

Im also debating between the ARCTIC from up country 4x4, the SJS from hardtops.co.uk and the Truckman.

The Truckman is ÂŁ300 more fitted than both the others and the ARCTIC does have central locking, heated rear window etc. All bar the SJS have an 8-12 week lead time though! :(

Another vote for truckman apart from the snugtop on the last D40 all have been Truckman never had any issues ,had more quibbles with the ST than all the others put together. For what they are the Steel ones look good money as well.

Whatever you do dont buy off ebay as the ones from the other side of the world dont fit! Thats why there has been a delay with european stock from other suppliers as 95% are made in Thailand anyhow.

NP300 canopies

With any luck my NP300 might arrive sometime this year...

I jest, it's imminent. When it finally does arrive I'll need a hardtop for it.

I have a few questions:
1) Does the tailgate lock with the central locking on the NP300? I ask because a Pegasus YouTube video I watched suggests it doesn't, and they have a length of angle aluminium that stops the lower tailgate opening until the hardtop is opened.
2) Does anyone have a truckman on an NP300? If so what are your thoughts?
3) I saw a roadranger for the previous navara, with remote (keyfob) pop out side windows. That would be ideal. Are they available anywhere?

I can only answer question 1, no, the tailgate doesn't lock with the central locking. There is a flimsy key hidden inside the "key fob" which you have to take out - real after thought and to be honest, a bit rubbish. As suggested by my local dealer, I've had a stronger key cut, saves taking the plastic fob apart and hopefully will last.
