i think the have to let the dealer fix it, before you can reject it, if one thing after another goes wrong or keeps going back with the same fault time after time, then yes you then could reject it, but for one thing i dont think you can

A couple of times now I've noticed a hot/burning type smell around the back of the truck. Having had a scoot about underneath earlier, as I grabbed the towbar to move under I practically burnt my hand. The exhaust exit is very close to the back of the towbar bar (if that makes sense) The bar is too hot to touch !!!!
Heat and smell will be from the DPF regeneration which is perfectly normal.

Not being very mechanical you may well be right, I wouldn't know. I still don't think it's quite right that the two are so close as my dodgy pic shows. The Towbar doesn't show any signs of damage, the smell seems to have stopped now so perhaps all is burnt off, not sure ......

I wondered why on the extras you couldn't order the below now I know why as its too close to the tow bar - thanks guys.
Chrome Exhaust Finisher
Add a finishing touch to compliment your exterior style with this genuine Nissan accessory chrome exhaust finisher.
Note: NOT compatible with vehicles with tow bar installed.

Hot "burning" type smell.

Pardon me for resurrecting an older thread, but that tow bar is a stupid design.

This is what the Nissan Genuine bar looks like here - noting that its compliance plate lists the manufacturer as Nissan Motor Co, which means it isn't a re-branded aftermarket part (which it was for my Patrol, for example, where it was manufactured by Hayman Reese).

As you can see it's well clear of the exhaust.

Is that a uk Towbar? Didn't know you guys were using the US system. Thought you used the EU system with a ball.

I don't think the US system is legaal here in Belgium. I would love to have one since there are motorcycle carriers available for these.

It's a 50mm square tube receiver, into which I can insert the (supplied) Nissan tow ball part, which has a 50mm/3.5T round ball attachment. As the ball attachment is only retained by the pin visible in these photos, it is readily stolen, so I do not fit it when not in use.

For off-roading I fit a recovery hitch which replaces the ball with a 4.75T bow shackle.

My trailer does not use a ball coupling in any event, I use a coupling called a Treg coupling, so the Nissan chrome tow ball will remain clean and shiny until I sell the car.
