If you're thinking about buying or have just bought a D22 Nav heres a few questions answered:

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A GUIDE ONLY AND MAY APPLY TO A SMALL % OF VEHICLES

1. Try this site for loads of info on specific models: http://www.navaraownersclub.com/

2. Some engines can blow prematurely this can be sorted with the "mod" viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5037

3. Some Navaras have a engine noise this is caused by rattly auxilary belts/pulleys.

4. They can suffer from a faulty neutral position switch on the gearbox causing loss of power in 3rd and 4th gear viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6788

5. When turning on full lock the steering can make a grinding noise this is caused by worn nylon end caps (easily fixed)

6. There is no diff lock only limited slip diffs, Uk variant only!

7. Some suffered from a high engine idle this can be reset by leaving the engine untouched on tickover for 10 minutes

8. Some suffered from cam chain tensioner issuses resulting in the guides being damaged (earlier ones for recalled for new parts to be replaced FOC)

9. The search button at the top right of the home page is your friend.

If members have any more info that i have missed i will add that also

Re: D22, a few pointers (buying, bought or thinking of buyin

I'm thinking of buying a 53 plate D22 its has had an engine replacment, will the new engine still have the infamous destruction problem between 60 and 120 thousand miles. or will it be a new altered engine. Not sure if it possible to answer my question but some input would be nice.

It all depends on who rebuilt it, and what big end shells they fitted mate.

If Nissan did it, the shells need removing, binning and upgraded ACL bearings need fitting.

The Nissan sheels are inferior due to the material they are made from being too soft.

hi, am like to know if there is a way of finding out if engine work has been carried out, been to look at a d22 its on a o3 plate and done 86,000 odd miles, went with a friend and found that the engine block said dy25 followed by numbers. so reading on here thinkin has it been done by now by pervous owners (the current owner is about 86 and hasnt got a clue) or has it not blow yet!!! any help would be great. it might seem ill stick with my hilux :~

I think you mean YD25 not dy25 as stated :?
If the owner has no proof with reciepts of the 'mod' then sorry no, it needs doing :(
Try to knock off the price of the 'mod' from Billcar (approx ÂŁ1000) to get a deal and get it done and you'll have a GREAT truck for years n years :thumbleft:
Woz
acerimmer..................drive the Nav and then your HiLux and you'll know it's money well spent

Although not mentioned, rust.........

Don't be aftaid to pop the arch extensions off and check front/rear arch lips for corrosion, especially on earlier models. The plastic extensions trap moisture and grime behind them. Although it's relatively simple to fix, if there are holes or sections of lips falling away, knock them down for new wings (cheap enough and readily available. Rear tubs can rot out between the cab and lead section of tub.

Also get right underneath and check chassis rails, underside of load bay, up inside all wheel arches, etc.
