Hi all, I'm looking to fit a secure roll top to the truck, I am looking at either the roll n lock or the armadillo roll top. It's hard to really see the differences between them all. I want it to be secure on the truck and I still want use of the side clamp channels. Can anyone point me into the best direction and give pros and cons to the different modals.

Thank you,

Matt

Have had Armadillo for well over 2 years and it seems OK...

Reasonably tough but with all the usual poor American design details (built for profit margin rather than for good quality and ease of use).

The bad bits are that the lock is awkward to use - to lock the thing in place you have to hold the top under tension while twiddling a fiddly key, which also goes the opposite way to what you expect. It's bad if you are Mr. Sausage Fingers. Then, after a while, all the tape strips from underneath fall off and get tangled when the top rolls back. These sealing strips are an attempt to reduce water ingress between the slats - I spend 9 months in Spain & Portugal, and even over winter, the sun causes the adhesive on the strips (like gaffer tape it is) to fail. Very poor materials and design, as you expect from the US.

Having said that, the basic structure is sound and it does the job of covering my 5W hitch when I'm not towing, and I don't worry too much about water getting in as I have tough-coat bed which is definitely excellent.

roll n lok are very good and one of the best for security
Glad you said that Dave. The one I bought off you is still in the garage. It's getting closer to the truck now, but have been clearing out **** so I can keep the SnugTop. Bought a half ton engine hoist to help with swapping them over, just got to see if it works now.:dunno

Was always very happy with the old Armidillo, OK, it wasn't quite water proof and did eventually suffer from the "hairy" masking tape giving up.

(found an old pic :)).

I now have the new style Nissan Rolltop which I have been very pleased with. No tape on the inside and some sort of thin rubber strips can be seen from the out side, different design and looks very good :thumbright:

:salute:

Ok excellent. One last question and that's me sorted... Hopefully! Is it compatible with the bedrug liner. It seems to look like it is but I'm thinking that there will be a need to cut a small section from the top of tailgate to fit the secondary lock for the door??

i have the armadillo and its ok as others have said it loses the tape which i replaced with gorilla tape, the lock is a major faff to get on with opening it full length and keeping hold of the keys is nigh impossible as the key wont come out when unlocked.

The biggest issue i have is not product related but scroats keep prising the damn thing open thinking i have stuff in it well i do its got a small box in it that i keep my cleaning stuff and deicer in!
if you regularly have the back empty just get a cloth one its cheaper than spraying the bed time after time or leave the tailgate unlocked in the hope the morons will try it first....there has to be a first sometime!

I have armadillo it has lost its tape and it does let a bit of water in. I also think it can get condensation on the inside and rain inside like a tin shed does.
Never had it forced and don't mind the faf with the key. I do have a squeak in the cab but I don't think it's the cover.
When the tape has gone it scratches the top.
Saying that I do like it and think it's versatile unlike a mountain top. It depends on what you carry. Both have advantages.
Soft cover probably best if your not leaving stuff in it as its light and can fold it away. (Mpg)
On all my other pickups I had a soft cover with elastic around it and cleats all the way around the bed old style and it was the best as you could put it over a load or remove it and fold it up or leave it on. It did fill up with rain water but first corner or hard acceleration and it was off or brake hard and get a free back window wash.

On one pick up when younger I removed the tail gate and had a race net to save fuel and no cover. It saved about 5 to the gallon. The cover saves about that compaired to just left open . That was on a b2200 Masda arrr those were the days ( read as old fart)

Also, what's the jack rabbit one like?
I have the pace edwards jack rabbit and find it excellent. Almost completely water tight, even when i pressure wash it. Very secure and the locking system is great. You can open it and lock it in 4 different positions, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and fully closed. It also doesn't obstruct the channels.
