a few firms offering this 1895+vat fitted, 6 months warrenty

spoke to one guy who said all engines are reconditioned with the upgraded parts (ie not dodgy shells)

they quote it is all in price, no extras

sound good?

There is a D40 engine on fleabay for £2k with 18k miles. If it would fit it would be a good swap!

Can I ask how many members have actually done this,
when I first joined, I did notice a story about somebody off (autotrader?) who offered a short engine, although I seem to recall some people on here were warning about him not being worth it.

I've not got any cause (yet) to consider a replacement unit on mine but its worth considering I expect all the same

forewarned and all that...

seems like a lot of money to me...its less than £100 for the bolts and bearings I think, and for what one member decsibed as 20 hours easy work with lots of tea - I'd be enclined to do it myself :thumbright:

I have heard alot of people on here quote its only £5-600 for the rebuild, sadly I cant seem to get a quote anywhere near this, so my engine is still untouched

I could transport the van anywhere i guess

So PLEASE can someone list a garage that knows of this problem and will do it for that figure, as near to surrey as pos, but if it can be done for that a bit on for recovery journey wont be the end of the world

Where are these garages?

Well (broadly speaking) there's no point surely discarding, elements of an otherwise good engine.

I suppose depending on the extent of damage to your engine, and whether or not its launched a rod through the side, or caught at the noisy stage.

Four years ago I had an 82' porsche which actually went though a set of shells in a very similar way to these nissans.
I looked around for a. Suitable replacement, in the end I gave it to a 'specialist'
"We'll only use parts from people we know" blahblah....

Perhaps you can see where this is going, it was possibly my most expensive mistake
(To date)

Consequently I'm more than a little sceptical about people offering all singing all dancing donor parts, in the similar circumstances again I'd either:
Get actual part repaired if still viable,
Or,
Trade car away,

Unless I found a donor crashed car and could fire motor up in-situ.

If you're willing to transport your truck, why not talk to NEIL on here.
His mechanic has done his 'mod' and since dropped the sump and bearings just to check out an oil problem.
Between them they know this engine inside-out so get in-touch.
His original post was 'This is why my engine knocked' on page 1 D22 tech help

Hope this helps

ive had no reply of any garage details that can do this work for the suggested sums, and cant leave it sitting there any longer

my engine has a loud knock and is unusable and i guess worthless as is

the guys are picking it up tomorrow afternoon to fit a recon in (all new parts, rings, tested etc) for £1895+vat fitted

so if anyone has any better option (a number of a garage who have done the rebuild for less) then please please post it before tomorrow lunchtime

thanks

Been watching this thread, probably because of the nagging doubt

'What if mine goes west'

Either way I'd be interested to see how this recon goes for you,
(if only for my own benefit in the future)

Its a pity nobody yet knows an enterprising mechanic that wants a steady stream of D22's to do.

Good luck on the motor anyway....

TBF, would have thought any competent, local independant mechanic should be able to do the work, especially if you indicate what needs to be done, supply the bolts and bearings and provide an indication of what you think the job should cost - all of which can be gained from this site :thumbleft:

yes, but the every one i have spoken to , including friends in the trade say that this work cant be done for £600 (as suggested on this forum), and so far no one on here has posted a number of a garage who have done it for that. I would really be thankful if someone would, as unless that happens, I have no other option than the recon engine

anyone please???

Agree,
I use one or other small back street places for our cars, and I'm well aware too, that sending in my Navara with a box of bearings and a few bolts is pretty unlikely to go down well,

more especially if i tell them that apparently some enthusiasts reckon theres no more than Six hundred in it for them
'and not a penny more my good man' :jokercol:

if that were the case then why isn't there someone on here offering to do it

As i say, I'd like to hear your thoughts on that recon a few miles further on, as it might prove the only viable solution just yet

Richard

im guessing im too late now - sorry havent had internet connection for ages (Stupid ISP) anyhoo there is a garage near me that replaced shells, bolts etc, reground my crank, replaced water pump replaced piston heads for £1600.

I dont know what state your engine is in i.e. if crank needs re-grinding (if its knocking i guess it will) but that gives you an idea of price

dont forget i had extras replaced, (piston heads, water pump etc)

also i dont know where in the country you are but heres the address/number

i know they have done a few D22's now

good luck

Hi All
just had my engine go south bottom end. Have had the starts of a chat with the dealer Rowstock over the problem, and the lack of communication. Still what I would like to know is what people think about recon engines as I have found a company that will collect and return with full rebuild for £2,300 with % year 60,000 mile warrantee.
