Fitted LED Lightbar. Dash lights problem

I fitted an LED Lightbar to the front of my navara last night. After it was working properly I went to start the navara and the battery had been drained so wouldn't start.

I left the battery on charge last night and I have just started the truck and I have a constant battery light & handbrake light while driving.

I'm going to try an ecu reset to see it that cures the problem if not I will get it plugged in and see what's up.

Anyone on here had any similar issues.

I wired the light bar via a relay.

Took a feed from the high beam to switch the relay on.

Other side of the relay fused supply to the light bar for power.

Like I said the led bar is working just strange those lights are staying on.

I noticed when the spragg clutch pulley on my alternator was failing the red battery light and handbrake warning light came on together so I assume, your alternator is not charging. This could be due to a blown fuse.

You have not fully explained where you connected the wiring. There are 4 terminals on the relay, it might help us help you if we knew exactly where you connected all four wires.

A diagram would help.

Wired up

85- feed from hi beam at headlight. ( green wire )
86- veh body earth.
30- fused from battery & led bar +
87- veh body earth

Lookskyward1.

The problem with the dash lights wasn't there before the LED bar was fitted. What fuse was blown that would cause the alt not to charge.

The light warnings are for low voltage..

Wiring should be:
Positive switched:
30 - fused from battery +
85 - ground
86 - high beam cable +
87 - to driving light +

Negative switched:
30 - fused battery +
85 - link to 30
86 - high beam -
87 (&a) - driving light +

I don't get how this would have worked as from what I'm understanding, you would just have the LED bar on all the time if you have tied the battery + and the lightbar + feed to the same terminal?

Pins 85 and 86 are ok, but 30 should go to the battery through a fuse and 87 should go to your light bar positive. As Keith says, it should have also blown your fuse from the battery as whenever the relay is energised you are creating a short circuit. Just hope theres no damage to the alternator and it is just a fuse.

Sorry guys my mistake I was going by memory just went out and checked it.

Pins 85&86 as above.
Pin 30- fused feed from battery.
Pin 87- LED bar +.

The earth for the LED bar is joined to pin 86 veh body earth.

I'm going to try an ecu reset today and if no joy I'm going to get it plugged into a computer tonight and see what codes it's reading, if any.

Try unpluging the relay see if it clears up your problem
At least then you know its not a short in the relay

Hi sseeaann1,

Don't know to much about vehicle electrics but it was mentioned earlier in the post about possibly the alternator not charging correctly, If everything is working ok with the light bar i would check the voltage on battery terminals with engine running to see what output your getting from the alternator first as well as the ecu reset.

Problem solved.

Blown 15a horn fuse in the fuse box.

Must have disturbed the air horn wiring while fitting the Lightbar relay and popped the fuse some how.

Strange how's that fuse made those lights stay on.

Anyways cheers for all the help.
