Not selecting 4 lo

Hey Guys n Gals,

I need some advice/trouble shooting help please..... Today I got caught on that dreaded hill that people don't know how to drive on towing a heavy weight again! After slipping the clutch a bit trying to pass this scared lady in a 16 plate smart car I got fed up of smelling clutch and thinking of said damage, so I put it in 4 low or tried at least! So the truck goes in to 4 hi no probs but when selecting 4 lol it just keeps flashing 4 lol and won't select it. I've tried forward backwards soft ground, hard ground, gear changes the lot! No avail. Could this have something to do with the rattling I reported coming from above sump/gearbox?

It's unusual for them not to select 4 lo, it's getting out of 4wd back to 2wd that can be awkward.

I assume you were stationary in neutral when you tried to select it?
Have you used 4 lo before?
Have you tried to select it since this incident?

Is the amber 4WD fault light on now?

No amber waning light which is why I find it so strange!!

Just to be clear, have you got it out of 4 wheel drive low, or is it still stuck in 4lo?

I can't get it in to 4lo at all. It does 2wd and 4 hi fine ? Bit confuddled

I get it now.

The next thing to try is to see if it is trying to engage 4lo.

Ignition on, engine off, windows open, select 4hi, you will hear a click as it engages.

Now try 4lo. You should be able hear an electric motor trying to engage the gear.

Definitely in Neutral? Is yours auto or manual? Does your cruise control work?

Sounds like it is electrical not mechanical then.
I suggest you need to get access to the motor which drives it to low ratio, not too hard to get to as it is on the transfer box.

When you say no cruise control, you mean it doesnt work or you dont have it?
