2007 D40 with 76k miles.

I took the Navara to the Nissan dealer for them to inspect for a corrosion warranty claim as the fuel filler recess is rotten through (finger sized holes in the metal!)

Anyway, whilst there they put it on the lift and discovered the rear fuel tank strap was hanging off. So I booked it in to have them replaced for ÂŁ180.00+VAT.

All was well and they told me it was ready to collect. When I got there they told me they couldn't fit the rear one as the mount for it was rotten/snapped off, they know my line of work so they assumed I would be able to weld something on myself. They didn't even think to give me the strap that wasn't fitted, I had to ask them for it.

Surely the mount that is no longer there should be covered under the 12 year warranty and thus it should be them welding something on free of charge? :frown2:

It has to be worth contacting Nissan Customer Service. It's a pity the dealer didn't do it for you.

I take it you are aware of this thread? http://www.nissan-navara.net/20-navara-chat/31214-d40-chassis-rust.html

Yeh I know about the thread, very helpful forum. I actually got chassis plates to weld on until I realised Nissan were buying them back etc. I'd happily make a bracket and weld it on but I'm really pushed for time at the minute otherwise I'd probably have it fixed already.

Garage fitted the new strap free of charge. To be honest I've not been under to find out what they did to fit it welding wise.

I'm also getting 2 new tub/rear quarter panels fitted along with the filler recess under the corrosion warranty!! Result :smile2:

I also have a bit of paint work bubbling off and pushed paintwork off.. and metal underneath is rusting.. now the question is i am not the original owner, will the 12 year warrenty still cover this or not? I have read a lot of the threads on rusting chassis etc.. but where do i stand?
And if i am going to have to pay for it myself, where can i buy a rear tub left hand panel from?

As for the rear tub it'll be cheeper to just buy a complete second hand one from a breaker but go down the warrenty first as even thought your not the original owner its still valid

Oh well thats gave me a little hope, is it just a case of ringing nissan customer services? Or is there a special number that ill need to ring?

You can contact customer services but they'll tell you to go to your local dealer first.

Keep in mind I'm covered as it has rusted through completely. Cosmetic rust may not be covered, although mine had paint peeling off down to bare metal at 3 years old.

On bodywork corrosion the warranty booklet says the vehicle must be inspected annually, some dealers are more flexible than others.

A reasonable independent garage will be able to grind out the rust and repaint it, any sh tub will be as bad as yours.

As I understand it the fuel filler panel is seperatly and available so should be repairable by a body shop. Problem is who pays for it. Nissan should as its a perforation warranty not rust warranty. It covers when it rusts from behind. Not in front.
This is what the steeler told me.

Yesterday i went to two places and both of them told me that the problem is that rust has come from behind and pushing the paint out.. so yeah the rust is from behind, aldo i can see that there is a little rust starting inside the fuel filler cap area.. so the rust has deffinatly got into the panel.. i am going to have to go to a dealer and see what they can do.. i am just hoping and praying that they will be helpfull and say it is covered.. i have had a hole as big as a 20 pence coin welded on the chasis before and i have just bought a new exhaust back box also because of rust.. i will be telling them about this aswell..

That's the Navara back from the dealers with 2 new quarters fitted. I'm surprised its been done on warranty to be honest but it is and I'm happy :grin2:
Hi liammcl,

I have one concern, i need to ring them up still as i have tried twice and not got through to anyone and havnt really had time to sort it out..
Anyway, i dont know if you could help me but i am the scond owner of my nav d40 aventura and need to know if they would still repair it with the priginal warrenty they give? I think its a 12 year warrenty for body work paint?
Thanks

If you tell them which dealer is not responding they should help you out kick starting the process. Send customer services an email explaining your situation gb@nissan-services.eu
