Hi Guys,

I know there is lots on people upgrading tyres with suspension.

However, I currently have Cooper Discoverer ATR 255/65 R17 tyres all round.

What is the biggest tyre, if not already, I can get on my standard Nav? (that also look awesome!) :)

Thanks guys.

I've just put some 265/70/17s on my standard 2010 D40.

No rubbing and no bother so far :)

Awesome, what are they? Can't tell from photo lol :)

How much were they?

BFG ATs - and not cheap

Bonus is the spare still fits (just) underneath.

Not sure whether you could go larger - the arches could definitely take it but I don't know how much they would rub...

Ok thanks mate, cool!

Any recommendations for best place to get them from, price wise?

If you want muds, go BF KM2's over STT's. Gamekeeper has the STT's and hates their on road performance. My KM2's are like noisy road tyres on the road and have never failed me in the mud yet, i love them! Claymore was right, they are the rolls royce of mud tyres.

The stts are fantastic in the mud or snow and even on the dry road but on a wet road i would concider them dangerous,i wont be buying them again

Damn I got something right at last :faint

from my experiance BF tyres i used sucked at offroad compared to Bridgestone ones i use now, BF barely lasted 3 years, they went completely flat in so little time, completely useless after like 30k kms.
i would have been killed one morning if the road wasnt empty cause they had 0 holding (after 30k kms i remind) and the truck started doing circles on 20 km/h
atm i use Bridgestone, a bit more expensive9at least in greece but they are far more superior.

Well I would have to say that I removed Bridgestone's from a MItsubishi pick up at 45 miles and replaced them with BFG KM1's some time ago. I have to say everybody has their own personnel favourite, mine just happen to be BFG and I have ran them on everything from Fourtrack independants,Shoguns Swb+Lwb and L200's. The man that pointed me in their direction is dead now but he got 80,000 miles from a set on a Landcruiser Amazon and had ran them for years

Its so strange to hear of people having problems with their AT's. i've heard loads of complaints about the Km2's, even though i love mine to bits, but the AT has been THE all terrain tyre for years now. Pretty much every overland vehicle doing stupid miles over stupid terrain will be running either the bfg at or mt!

as i said, just speaking personally, maybe the tires were just faulty or who knows what
not blaming either company, just saying i am at 8 years of bridgestone and 3 on BF and i would vote for bridgestone again

I have been running 4x4's of different ilks for about 20yrs now but have stuck with what I know so my feedback narrow..

BFG AT's the nuts but expensive although I have found them in 265/70-17's
BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO 265/70 R17 112R for ÂŁ145 per corner (add ÂŁ15 a corner for fitting...) ÂŁ160 all in not bad!!

I also love the General Grabber AT and AT2's.. I can save ÂŁ20 - ÂŁ30 per corner and I think for their money they are almost unbeatable.. On really slick stuff I may need to lower tyre pressures a bit more than with the BFG's but the walls are solid, tread good, sticky on everything from mud to wet and snow/ice.. and ultra sticky on dry stuff with excellent wear profile.. I got over 18k miles and they still had loads but planned a big off road venture across europe so replaced...

I was part of Berkshire 4x4 response a while back running a Mitsi delica lifted, rear air locked and sump, diff, tank armoured and in that time that little 2.8 pulled trucks out of ditches and even got several arctics up the M25 pre amersham exit hill in packed ice/snow running the grabbers... (damned agency drivers don't even know where the towing points are!!! Tip.. Big metal eye thing screws somewhere into the front of the big tractor unit thing..)..

Those 2 are my picks for everything 4x4.. BFG's if you have the money... Grabbers almost as good and cheap..

In fact I have just bought my own Navara Aventura and am about to re-shoe it.... Damn if I am not leaning towards the grabbers after writing this post LOL.... :eekout

HTH...

Getting hold of General Grabber AT2s is difficult, they have replaced them with the AT which is not as aggressive looking. I had a pair on the front for a while but was never massively impressed with them offroad.

Agreed about the Grabber AT2 and AT and I only ever used the AT2.

http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres-265-70-17-112-R/ = AT2's a plenty and find these guys fairly competetive..

To be clear.. I have absolutely no affiliation with any car companies or parts companies of any kind.. In fact I am today wourcing all my service parts at euro car parts... whay? convenience.. Passing on stuff when I find what I believe to be a good deal has bitten me before... so just playing safe...

BF KM2 vs Duratrack

If you want muds, go BF KM2's over STT's. Gamekeeper has the STT's and hates their on road performance. My KM2's are like noisy road tyres on the road and have never failed me in the mud yet, i love them! Claymore was right, they are the rolls royce of mud tyres.

Hi Rich
thinking also for mud tires my first choice is BF KM2, second Duratrack and finally STT. A friend with a Hilux told me that KM2 are very dangerous in the rain and suggest me for Good Year Duratrack which are very good in snow as well.
The point is that I travel a lot during winter on the highway and I want one type of tire. During the summer my Nav is parked because I work the hole summer season full time.
So what is your opinion?
Finally should I post the same question in a new thread as well to have opinions for other members?

if its for snow and ice then an MT is not the best to use the heavy lugs rip up snow without getting good grip and on ice the lugs dont grip any better than normal tyres, the absolute best Tyre i have ever used on icy conditions is the general grabber AT2 which is also snowflake marked and able to take spikes if required, its also a great all rounder but not very good in mud as it clogs but so do all other AT tyres
