Tyre help! :dunno

Hi all,

Im need of a bit of help, i am going to be needing to buy a new set of tyres for my 07 aventura. I am going to be taking it back to spain again soon and so i want to buy some good all round tyres that will be good on the roads but wont have no problems at all on dry dirt tracks and sandy olive groves... i am liking the wranglers and bfg's.. what tyres do you recomend? And also i would like to improve ground clearence as much as i can, but still use my standard 17" rims... what are the biggest tyre i can go for that wont cause rubbing or having to rim plastic? i am also looking for any help with lifting it a bit whilst keeping my standard leaf springs. I know there are blocks and shackles but have read a lot of mixed opinions on whats best to use and whats safe and whats not..

Any help much appreciated!

i have BFGs 265/70/17 (biggest that will fit with no rubbing unlifted) which i cant fault on road or looks wise.... yet to see much off road though

I do think the bfg's look awsome. Deffinately want that mean look aswell

If you have a browse through the exterior modifications section there is quite a lot on lifts. But really if you are doing some light off roading the tyres are by far and away the best modification.

So if i went for the bfg's all terrain, how much more clearence would i actually get just by upgrading tyres?

Not much, about an inch. Saying that, a suspension lift will give zero extra clearance below the diff.

Well an inch isn't bad really I suppose, every little helps!
them tyres look really good.

I just took her for an MOT on Saturday and she failed due to the windscreen wipers and there was a crack in one of the leaf springs which must of happened very recently as I didn't know nothing about it and I do keep an eye on things under there...
anyway, I have bought two new leaf springs from milners which I will be fitting this weekend, I was also thinking while I'm under there to maybe buy a lift kit?? but, what do you guys think about the block style lift kits? am I wasting my time and do they just cause more stress and damage then anything else? I don't want to go mad but as I'm going to be putting slightly bigger tires, I think it would look better lifting her up a tad?

Blocks are just wrong. Longer shackles are the best thing for leafs.

I have seen a set of 3 inch strut spacers and 2 inch rear shackles for around 140 quid, will this give it a final level lift or when no load will it be slightly higher at rear? As i would rather it be slightly higher at rear than the front as i will probably always have a small load in tub and dont want front wnd higher than rear..?

I have Rg At2 on my truck can't fault them. Def worth the money and still have shed loads of tread left already done 14k miles so I am expecting over 30 k from them .

That set sounds like it would raise the front more than the back.

For what you have said, AT tyres seem a good compromise (although for pure sand driving like beaches, less aggressive HT tyres are a better bet).

I have BFG AT KO2 in LT construction, which I really like, but I am the first to admit they are very expensive. I pay extra for them due to their very strong carcass construction and my need to tackle lots of rocks and corrugations from time to time. If your off-roading is less demanding, consider the cheaper ATs from Kumho, Hankook and the like. Still a great tyre, often much cheaper.

The other benefit of the BFG ATs is the durability.
No exaggeration - I got 130k miles from a set, even then the rears still had over 3mm of tread.

Thats really good on durability then, i have 2mm of tread on the rears and need changing very soon, my fronts are on 4/5mm.. is it a good idea to swap around or not?

Well my plan was to get 4 new tyres and put them one at same time, but i wont be getting them till probably end of next month.. i was thinking in the meantime what is best?

Best tyres on the front, always. They do your braking and steering as well as clear the water before the rears arrive.

Few years back i had similar situation with a seat leon, and my navara is my first pickup and rear wheel drive i have had so wasnt 100% if it was the same sort of thing
