I thought about cat delete but its a d22, its diesel, I don't welly it and didn't need the extra hassle of modding the cat..
I think freewheeling hubs would be more beneficial to my driving style.
I don't believe the d22 has dpf??
The egr blank, regular air filter change and new exhaust have improved the already great mpg I was getting..to around a consistent 37-38mpg
We are getting quite rare on here now, us D22 owners.
Yes there is no DPF on a D22.
There is no real benefit in removing the cat (you may get slightly quicker spooling of the turbo if you are a 'racer', but that's about it), with all the discussions on NO2 pollution I can see the cat becoming a MOT test item in the future, if it's not there and working, it'll be an expensive failure!
You'll be well surprised the difference FWH's will make, the truck will drive more like a rear wheel drive car, front axle drag and noise will go, an indefinite front prop (known to be an expensive weakness) life will be another huge benefit.
Another 'good' upgrade would be to fit Monroe Adventure dampers, my wife is totally ignorant to a car's workings, after I fitted the Monroe's (unbeknown to her) the first thing she said following her first drive of it was, "what have you done to the truck!" the handling really was that much better.
Like you I get 37-38mpg regularly, however I am now running tyres two sizes larger so according to sat-nav my speddo is pretty well accurate, I once got just over 40 on the standard tyres, but the higher overall gearing now prevents this ambition.
Are you still using the mechanical engine fan? Removing it will help reduce fuel usage slightly, and warm up will be quicker.
I went electric years ago, the reduction in noise from under the bonnet was noticeable, even with the stat on the coolest setting it has never operated automatically, D22's are massively overcooled for the UK.
Re: Air filters.
Have you blanked off the hole in the nearside under-wing shield? This is immediately below the intake for the engine air intake, it is pointless, all it does it allow dirt, water, leaves, dust and debris that is thrown up from the wheel to be sucked into the filter box!
