When I bought my 06 Nav it had the spare wheel in the pick up bed just sitting there. Ive had a look under the truck where its supposed to be stored and theres a chain part which I believe lowers and rainses to secure the wheel but the handbook says there should be a bracket which goes across the bottom of the tyre when its in the stored position for it to be secured properly, problem is I dont see the bracket and im unsure if its been removed or if its just the chain that secures it with no bracket, anyone got an idea?

Hi mate, the chain should have a metal bracket on the end of it, this goes through the wheel centre, and bridges the centre hole, so that the wheel can be lifted operating the mechanism. The chain should be tightened up firm, so that the spare compresses onto some rubber buffer under the truck, this holds everything firm. There isn't another bracket to hold the wheel, just the chain tension mate

How the hell do you work the chain mechanism, the head looks like a locking nut adaption, the jacking set I hav has nothing like that on it?? HELP BEFORE DARKNESS!!!

The earlier D40's had alloy spares mate, so they have a security key, similar to wheel nut type but much smaller in diameter.
The key should be attached to one of the three rod in the tool bag, if not have a search in the truck, under the seats, in the secret dash compartment maybe?

If you don't have the key, i think you can reamove the female part from the mechanism, and just use the T bar rod to operate?

Failing that mate, dealer will have to get you a replacement key

One obserbation I would like to make about the Nissan Navaras............NOTHINGS STRAIGHT FORWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :x :x :x :x :x
probably why they did away with the key adaptor on the later models.
It is also known for the bracket to snap off and the spare to disappear...
