Welcome along. There is a Thinking of Buying section, worth a read.
Hi thanks for that, yes I've been having a good read over the last few days so will ask a few question in the that section. I've owned several Toyotas and Mazdas before but never a Nissan and I must admit reading the forum and some other owner review sites I'm a bit shocked and worried about the number of potential problems there seems to be? It's definitely not something I've suffered with on the Toyotas or Mazdas so I'm really surprised as I thought all Jap manufactures were pretty reliable and bomb proof....

A couple of thoughts...
The Mazda and Toyota were lower tech than the R51 and Navara D40, so are less stressed and more reliable.
People tend to write about their problems, there are plenty of owners who haven't experienced them.
I think it is fair to say that the (US designed) R51 and D40 were a bit rushed, in particular the diesel engine that was dropped in for the non US market wasn't the greatest implementation.

That's a very valid comment and I totally agree the other vehicles were technically more basic in comparison but I have also owned a Mitsubishi Shogun Sport so not a dissimilar vehicle and also had no problems with that. I want an automatic and think this is probably my main worry about the Pathfinder after reading about the problems with the coolant leaking into the gearbox oil and wrecking the units. I'm prepared for the high running costs with regard to road tax and fuel but I really can't afford to be lumbered with repair bills for new gearboxes and 'body off' repairs for relatively minor problems. One car I'm thinking of is an 07 model with low mileage, were there any improvements for any mechanical gremlins by that time or would this still be identical to the first 05 models?
