Evening guys & gals, I have been through some of the forums previous topics and read through a lot of the answers in regards to tyre size and spacers but I have failed to find what I need to know. Appreciate any help and info on the following:

what’s the biggest Mud Terrain tyres I can fit to a standard 2007 Navara (17” wheels) and can I squeeze on some spacers to give it a wider stance with the tyres??
Was just about to hit the purchase button on some 265/70/17 mt601 hifly Mud Terrain tyres and some 30mm Hubcentric wheel spacers (66.1m)

The 265 70 17 are as big as you can use with out a lift, yes you can use spacers as well with this size.

A couple of things to think about...

Mud terrains are pretty poor on the road and wear quickly, so won't be suitable if you are doing many miles.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a chunky off roader, you can go for even bigger tyres with a suspension or body lift (not that expensive).

Thanks for the reply, I was concerned that the mud terrains extra tread depth in comparison to a all terrain or road tyre, would make them to big. I would like to do a lift of around 2” so I don’t have to start playing and changing to much.

The tyre size is the overall dimension, so a road and mud tyre will be the same size for a stated figure.

Not necessarily so, just to confuse things. The width and aspect are ‘nominal’ and there is little consistency between manufacturers about whether it includes tread. BFG, for example, used to specify genuine circumferences and they were often a lot larger than the nominal size suggested.

MT tyres will generally be a bit bigger than an equivalent HT.

Hi, you've probably found out already but just wanted to say that my landy had both BF Goodrich and Insa Turbo Dakar (same pattern) MTs on for its entire life with me and no matter what the conditions it cornered like it was on rails on road and off road they were amazing! your Maxxis Bighorns are the exact same pattern. the new BFs are a new pattern entirely and i never had those but the old tried and tested (yours) were excellent.

Incidentally many people turned their nose up at my Insas being they were remoulds but they soon bought some after they saw mine last 5 years and drag most of them from the bogs they were stuck in! :) have got to say though.............. MTs are defo noisier but I had a loud radio so it never mattered :)
