So my Nav has developed an intermittent splutter which becomes worse when the Air con is ON and up high. The splutter occurs when I am just on the the throttle and when the vehicle changes gear (auto box). I dropped the vehicle in the Nissan who plugged it in straight away and...................... No fault code stored in the ECU.

Any ideas?

What do you mean by “splutter”?

Something lost in translation here. OK imagine a vehicle that is not firing on all cylinders. Its that kind of thing but as severe.
Logged on via laptop now, bloody predictive text on phones drives me crazy.

RIGHT!! the vehicle hesitates/stutters/splutters As i said, if it were a petrol fuelled vehicle it would feel like a dodgy spark plug or lead. The Nav revs freely when in N or P but when driving the hesitation/stutter/splutter happens when just on the throttle and between gear changes. The problem is a lot worse when the air con is on high and it only happens when the vehicle has warmed up.

I have switched the air con on and off when the vehicle stationary to see what "pull" it has on the engine, and it does pull on the power but no more than any other vehicle.

Nissan plugged the vehicle in and no fault codes are stored on the ECU

Not everything has an error code, so did the Nissan tech drive it and feel the problem?

A lot of people will be thinking 'fuelling' - air getting in after maybe a filter change. Maybe a bad injector. How long have you had the problem? Has anything been changed just prior to the problem? The engine is electronically backed-off for autobox changes, so maybe it is when fuel is re-applied after the change is complete....

Not sure why air-con makes it worse though, although it is a fair load on the engine.

Does the problem seem as bad if you have headlights/screen heater/fans all on but NOT A/C? Might be worth ruling out the battery as there have been a number of bad batteries of late. Also try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting to force a reset.

At least you are still under warranty!

No difference when fan, screen heater or headlights on. I have just been for another test drive and the vehicle felt fine for the fist ten minutes then the problem started again. There is no loss of power that you would notice, just this annoying hesitation/stutter/splutter.

PS the problem is more evident when driving up a steep incline

Sounds like fuel starvation under load. You should go back to Nissan while it has a warranty!
Maybe find a more helpful dealer?

The computer says "no", but it would also show no error codes if all the wheels fell off, so you need to find a new dealer and get it road tested, then fixed under warranty.

Yep, I’m with freemansteve here. This problem is not normal and sounds like a vacuum or fuel problem.

As it’s under warranty, return it to Nissan and stomp up and down until it’s resolved.

I've had something similar but only when pulling off the driveway.
I have to turn on my drive. This involves reversing back on a full left lock then right lock and pull forward. Sometimes when I pull forward the engine dies down to almost a stall.. no lights or warnings but it is a bit of a pain.
