So I discovered my Navara has a YD25 engine (though yet to figure out the exact engine number) and i've been reading the summary and threads on the engine problem with interest.

I purchased the Navara from a dealer in Devon. Its an 04 engine, YD25, so quite probably has or had the problem.

I have been looking back through the service history and repairs - all the documentation that was provided to me by the dealership - and I came across the invoice shown in the photo attached. The writing is pretty bad, but it looks to me like the truck has already had some work done back in 2016 including big end, washers and con rod. I've tried to get hold of the garage to see if they have a more detailed record of the repair but without much success. Just wondering if any of the experts on here have any thoughts on this?

I'm not competent enough to carry out the engine mod myself, so if it does need doing i'll have to take it to a local garage in south devon. For what its worth, the truck is 2004 double cab diesel 100,000 miles.

Thanks
T.

Crank regrind, big end bearings and washers, main bearings, and a conrod.

Sounds like its done the D22 thing and let itself go.

hopefully theyve used proper bearings and conrod bolts

ok great - thanks for that translation.

so it doesn't look like i'm going to be able to get any more detail than this from the garage for various reasons. But i'm at least a little happier that someone (an expert - not me!) has looked at the engine recently and replaced those bits. Whether they are "proper" or not.... i'm in the position that I am always going to be reliant on a proper mechanic to trust them to do this job for me, its not something I feel confident taking on myself. So yes, I think its a fingers-crossed type thing.

Not in Devon, but approved of on here, & probably a quicker trip for you than it was for me? I had Billcar do a full engine rebuild for me in January & I am very pleased with it.

They have a cheap fix advertised on Ebay. My engine had allegedly been rebuilt but I wanted an old truck with a good solid engine. The thing that worried me was that my oil light was staying on for too long on cold start ups so decided to invest in the mods advised on this forum.
