Had my 2004 Navara VLUD22 from new.
Motor: O-YD25
Millage 199693 KM
124083 Miles
Serviced regularly and in vgc

Been a completely trouble free motor until......last week winding my way home up the mountain and a strange noise comes from the engine.
Sounded like a frayed belt.
Stoped the engine thinking I would find a belt half giving way.....found nothing.
Noise is there with gear engaged and in neutral.
Noise "flapping noise" speeds up with acceleration.
Fearing the worst I had it taken to the garage I've used for the last 12 years.
They have not opened the engine up as yet,(due the the Navs age and little value) but are suggesting a piston failure....
Does this sound correct to the experts?

By the way, the fix for these engines was pioneered by one of the members on here, Chris Vince.
So if you read through the guides, anything he has said is gospel!
Also, get the upgrade tube for the oil pump from Billcar, gives you that extra piece of mind when you put it all back together, I have had mine apart twice now so as Lanndmannnn said Chris is the gospel on these engines, I wish I had read his post the first time

I have just seen where you're from Jonathan, I lived in Fuengirola for two years.

Hope you get it sorted out mate

I didn't no, only got her over here a couple of years ago, I drove an old Mitsubishi Lancer out there, nice car but love my truck far more even tho she has cost me an arm and a leg

Ok Mark....was asking incase you had a list of suppliers here to buy from......up until now my Nav has been golden for 14 years, only cost has been service costs.

Today I started to open her up.....I run out of light... I'm about 1 hour away from having the sump off...will attack again on Friday.

Ah yeah , no sorry bud, got a mate up in Marina Del Este near Nerja who might know someone, I will drop him a message on facebook and see if he knows anyone for you.

Hello Jonathon.

I hope you get to the bottom of this issue.

The post written by mowerman about early YD25DDTi big end problems is an absolutely mind-blowing read. Well worth doing the whole lot he suggested if you're taking the sump off.

Anyway, hope it all works out sweet for you.

Got the sump off today..... number 1 bearing very worn, a little scoring on shaft which I'm hoping will polish out. Noticed one of the original Nissan bearings shows signs of air pockets in the casting so a failure in waiting.
Bolts on number 1 quiet loose compared to the rest so this confirms they have most probably stretched.
I've not yet attempted to remove the bolts, any tricks/ advice on this will be greatly appreciated......

So the only hope at this stage is that the score polishes out. Things don't seem too bad, you've caught it nicely I would say.

The only thing to bear in mind when removing the prospectively stretched bolts is be extremely fluid with your movements on the tools, pressure slowly on and off, no bouncing/sharp/shock pressure. It's a gamble. They should be ok. If they are stretched, this could be in your favour due to the now lower torque, but that is offset by the hammering they've taken which may mean they are weak.

Take your time! Best of luck.

I wonder did you have time for a decent inspection with a torch and all seems well? Still nothing to explain the strange flapping noise which initiated this check.

I've had a good look inside and all looking good.

Number 1 bearings are very worn and the bottom one had come loose and had started to go underneath the top one.....it was also cracked and fell apart as I took it out......maybe the cause of the flapping noise (flapping noise is probably not the best description) alas I did not get a recording of it.

PS, I managed to get the sump out without moving the gearbox.....drilled 2 holes in the bell housing adapter plate and removed the two bolts that way....

Ok..got everything back together and sounded like a new engine...let the engine run for a couple of hours and everything was sweet, as it was getting late did not take it out for a drive. The next morning still sounding good, took it for its fist drive and after 1/2 KM a hear a tapping noise:frown2: after about 1 KM its getting louder so parks up...Eventually get it towed home....opens up again and number 1 bearing again is badly worn.....so has a good look inside and finds the con rod is cracked:crying: First time around I didn't see it....could of been I missed it.
So.....has any one out there any advice on replacing this.....

PS thanks Vincegrant224 for the torc settings

Jonathan, I must admit I replaced the con rod when my big end bearings went as instructed by Billcar, Sorry mate never even thought of that when we spoke before
