Good morning. Looking for thoughts on new pick ups. I currently have a 2011 V6 outlaw (4th D40 to date and by far the best i've had)

So wife currently has a 2020 SQ5 but doesn't get used much so she's looking to sell and get the electric mini. This means she will use my truck when she need to go anywhere far or take the kids out so i'm looking to upgrade my truck.

I'm after another automatic

What's best, NP300, Amarok (won't be spending on a V6 as crazy money) or Ranger. (3.2 only as heard nothing good on the 2.2) - I had a 2014 ranger 3.2 and it was terrible. lasted 6 weeks then back to a Navara. i'll look at the face lift this time 2016 onwards and auto as mine was manual. not sure if mine was just a bad one.

Don't like the look of the L200 and tried a new Isuzu and found my old 2005 Navara better.

Sorry for the waffle just need some opinions

Having had the V6 Navara, any 4 cylinder will seem a bit slow.

Especially the Toyota and Isuzu, you will have to go flat out to keep up with the traffic.

As you say, the V6 Merc and VW are over priced.
The 3.2 Ranger has the crudest engine imaginable (it was developed for the US Transit)

So for your money (guessing about ÂŁ14k), there are only 2 logical choices, a Navara or a 4 cylinder Ranger.

thanks for the quick reply. budget will be ÂŁ14 to ÂŁ16k as don't want finance.

Everything is crazy expensive at present. Dealers offering more for the wife's car than we paid a main dealer for it. So might sell my Navara and hang on 6 months see if things come down a bit in price.

3.2 ranger - wasn't just mine then. Felt like driving a tractor.

can't imagine how slow the 2.2 ranger is so will avoid.

leaves the Navara then or maybe a VW if get lucky on a 4 cyl. going to have to face having a slow truck I think.

Bare in mind that the 2.0 amarok is the same engine that was in my Octavia 4x4 , single turbo on the 140 and biturbo on the 180 (amarok). A good engine but like all motors thirsty when pushed , if your doing any kind of towing it will kill fuel consumption. So the Skoda was 140 bhp , fast and economical averaging 45mpg BUT whenever I used it to tow a trailer , usually around 1500kg the mpg would drop to 25-27 mpg . Add in the extra weight of the vehicle itself and I bet you’d b lucky to see an average of 30 mpg ,which bring you into …………V6 Outlaw territory 🤣. Having just bought a 2011 V6 Outlaw I can’t see why anyone would want to change !

I’m smitten with my V6 , newest motor I’ve ever had (except for a tractor I once had that was only 5 yrs old at the time ) so obviously I’m biased !
I know a lad with a 3.2 Ranger , it had a replacement engine @13k miles before he owned it and has since had 4 more major engine faults in 50k miles. Rubbish.
