Doing a bit of gardening and building a pool so I bought a cheapo chinese 1000kg mini excavator at an auction with a transport width of 95cm (video of it below for anyone interested) I have some aluminium loading ramps certified for 2000kg. I can probably take off the excavator canopy to make it a bit more aerodynamic and look less outrageous, maybe even put it under a tarp but my big question is... is this even legal? Also would I need to take off the tailgate of the Navara cos I'm guessing that it can't handle 1000kg?

Welcome to the forum.

Well I put 800kg of tiles in mine and the suspension dropped to the bump stops.

So a metric tonne is too much.

Technically you can carry that much but the 1094kg payload includes the weight of the driver etc. Also the weight needs to be reasonably distributed.

The tailgate is 250kg rated.

I would suggest (strongly) that you hire a trailer for the day...

In theory if it fits and you can secure it under 1000kg then yes it's legal! The tailgate will need removing. However I've had 800kg of paving slabs in mine and the handling really (and i mean really ) suffered, I wouldn't like to think how it would handle with 1000kg with a high center of gravity like it would be with a digger!
I'd be inclined to try get a small cheep twin axle trailer!

Bugger @landmannnn you beat me to it by seconds lol
Is the tailgate really 250kg? I've stood on mine at 104kg and it felt like that was close to its limit!
