Last few months the truck has felt a bit sluggish and noisier. Sometimes struggles uphill and sometimes makes a low vibrating/buzzing/blowing noise located passenger side of bonnet when accelerating to change gear. But not all the time seems more when the engine is warmed up.

Garage says I need a new turbo. Current one has an oil leak. Quote ÂŁ1200. A second garage agreed but I stupidly told them about the previous diagnosis. Quote ÂŁ1500.

Neither of which sound 100% sure thus will fix the problem and run sweet.

It's a pretty standard thing for mechanics to diagnose a turbo at fault. They don't understand them, normally thinking that they are devils work.

A brand new turbo is ÂŁ800, recon ÂŁ250, so with a couple of hours of labour it's a good earner when you charge ÂŁ1500 + vat.

It's fairly simple to check a turbo for wear by taking the intake hose to the turbo off and feeling for lateral play in the turbines. If they did that, then it could well be the turbo.
If they just revved it up and looked at it, they are just guessing.

Thanks for the reply. You're right it sounds like a guess as nothing was taken apart when diagnosed. There's no smoke and it's only noisy after driving for 10 minutes so it's hard for a mechanic to see the problem I'm trying to explain

It could be few things that are causig the issue. First check is to look at the intake pipes from the turbo to the front of the engine bay. Look for any signs of oil seepage, if there is some oil on the pipes it probably means the hose clips need tightening, although sometimes the rubber hoses can split.
Other than tham that, the challenge is to find a decent mechanic..
