A few electrical issues have raised their head during the recent cold snap. Around a week ago the Alternator light / handbrake light started coming on temporarily (probably no more than 30s) checked battery voltage whist running multiple times and alternator appeared to be charging the battery just fine. Today the they came on and stayed on so investigated a little further and the alternator is covered in oil. So I am assuming the alternator has now packed up (will grab a multimeter at work tomorrow and double check) so will replace but I am wondering what is the likely source of the oil leak? That side of the engine unfortunately seems to have been nicely bathed in a decent covering of oil!

In my case I had cross threaded the oil filler cap, a nice flime of oil on the alternator and airc ompressor..

I wonder if it is oil on the serpentine belt rather than the alternator?
