Hi everyone. Just purchased a 2015 D40 Outlaw with that marvellous V6 Diesel. It's been well looked after but needs some minor maintenance such as front ball joints and shocks replacing. I've done my research but would really appreciate any advice on preventative maintenance over and above the usual servicing requirements and any feedback on the best engine oil and Auto transmission fluid to use. Whilst the truck has a good service history, most of it at a Nissan main dealer, my experience of main dealers is hit and miss and often find that they are fitters rather than good old fashioned mechanics and enthusiasts. As such I am keen to take on the ongoing upkeep of the vehicle. I am fortunate that I have a good DIY workshop but am struggling to find a workshop manual to cover the Outlaw with the V9X engine and Auto transmission. Can any members point me in the right direction to get a manual? Great forum and would appreciate any advice on ownership of this fantastic truck. Paul.
Hi Paul, welcome.
I've owned a V6 since nearly new and tried to look after it in spite of 150k miles. Actually for sale now.
Engine - the factory intercooler is known to split. I had mine replaced twice under warranty but after that bought a Plazaman one. I just buy the oils from Opie oils, putting my reg number in
The egr valve will fail, mine lasted 140k miles but normally less. ÂŁ180 for a replacement. Other than that no mechanical issues are common and it still drives nicely of course.
Transmission - a good idea to replace. It needs 10 litres as it is a flush too. Any fluid that is compatible with Nissan Matic S. A new filter and gasket is about ÂŁ50.
General D40 stuff. The front inner TCA bushes, bottom ball joint and anti roll bar links will all eventually go. I just replaced all the TCA bushes with poly, both ball joints, new drop links, discs, pads, calipers and fitted braided brake hoses all round which made a big difference. I wasn't expecting to sell it.
I've also gone mad with dinitrol to prevent rust. Don't miss out cavity wax inside the chassis and above the metal rear wheel arches (need to drill a few holes to get the sprayer into the cavity)
I've got manuals. Give me your email and I will share via Google drive.
Happy motoring, they are a great drive!
