Ignoring MPG - Auto or Manual

Hi

I am thinking of getting a New Navara as my new company vehicle.

Spec: Tekna Connect 2.5 (would like the new 3.0, but budget won't allow).

I am not sure whether to go for an auto or manual. I don't pay for my own fuel, so MPG isn't really a consideration.

What's the auto like? Some reports are good, others say it puts more strain the truck as it's only 5 speed?

I currently drive a DSG Seat, which I find better than a manual.

If fuel economy isn't an issue then imo auto, nice lazy drive, no clutch exercises when in traffic jambs.

Anyway, it will all be down to personal pref, i've driven auto and manual D40's and i much prefer the auto :wink:

I drive an auto for the reasons LT has mentioned above. I have driven the D40 manual and absolutely hated it. Couldn't imagine having to drive one in traffic. If you have the option then I would go auto all the way. :thumbright:

Additionally, I prefer the look of the auto gear selector than the monstrotity of a gear stick that are in the manuals.

I am in excactly the same position as you, mpg not an issue as wont be towing and all fuel will go thru my business, I really was not bothered about auto v manual, I was leaning toward manual but a cancelled auto order came up so I test drove the Pathfinder auto as well as a manual nav on the same day, obviously not quite the same car/truck but I ended up going with the auto which I get September 1st (stripy paint permitting :wink: ) I can only echo a comment made above it is a nicer finish inside and asthetically more pleasing on the eye ;)

A big car/truck with auto is not the worst thing in the world, its not like its a 'drivers' car that would suffer not being manual, you wouldnt have an auto lotus elise same as you would not really have a manual modern range rover, some cars just suit manual or auto, this one I guess is down to personal preference, I dont excpect to be caning this around the countryside overtaking everything in sight so will be pretty happy with the auto... just my 2p worth :wink:

I've been driving auto's almost exclusively for about 10 years and there would have to be a huge incentive to make me change back.

One word of caution it's a huge difference driving auto off road, that said I now prefer it, the biggest advantage is changing gear without losing traction when you depress the clutch.

Downside lack of engine braking.

100% Auto...The box in the Navara is not bad at all actually 5 speed well geared....My references are my wife's Nissan Murano CVT, my Navara ;-), Audi 3.0 Quattro Tip, BMW 740i, BMW 750iL, Jaguar XJ etc...

Like it in auto...

I'm quite surprised having read this post how many owners have voted for the auto. I believe it's the best option and when I order my new Nav it will most definately be an auto. :thumbright:

Wheres all the manual boys when you need them for back up eh :lol:

They are all too tired to type mate. Their arms are tired from changing gear all day. :lol:

Auto for me to, never stall it when bunny bashing :D :D like I use to the manual Discovery :oops: :oops: (Yes I saw the light and got rid of that one fast :mrgreen: )

Auto for me too, its so smooth compared with the manual having to wind it up through all 6 gears.......
