UPDATE FIXED! Loud whistle / sqealing noise, video link

Not had the navara long, drove a good 30 miles with none of this noise.

launced it away from some lights a bit yesterday, and i got this anoyingly loud squealing whistling, and its still the same today, cold or warm.



Its worse when driven on load, starts at 1500rpm ( guesing thats when the turbo starts? )

The sound hasnt been picked up that great by my camera, but it is ridiculously loud!

There is no mods to the engine.


Have had a bit of a search, but not come up with anything?

anyone had this issue?

yeah sorry, cameras not that great at picking up sound,

deff turbo related, anyone know do they have diverter valves? thinking if so could have split, and when on load produces the load whislting, with all my boost escaping!

Turbos ****** pal! the turbo on the nav is a Varible vain turbo. either vains have stuck open or seals have blown.

my dads nav did the same just before it came out of warrenty about 6 months ago.

His did it all the time...... if its not doing it then poss varible vains in turbo had stuck fully open esp if you had booted it. maybe freed themselves.......
keep a eye on it bud.

His repair was done under warrenty so no idea of cost but, I would think a turbo would cost approx £1000 from nissan, you get them from time to time on ebay from anything from £250 to £600.

Drove home from work this morning, and all quite again,

and seen a few on ebay @ them prices, second hand tho !

seems high for a turbo, compared to previous petrol turbo'd cars ive had.

Anyone bought a new turbo? how much £ssss


still doing it intermitently, really need to diagnose it 100%, dont want to be changing the turbo for no reason.

if the turbo has gone, thats just damn unlucky bud. id recommend turbo-technics though. i think one of the top guys down there is called darren if memory serves me right, and can do a good deal if persueded in the right manner :) not to say they are the cheapest though, but bloody tough turbo's to beat!

i recon the vains on the turbo keep sticking or its the boost solinod valve is palying up, this is located down the left hand side of the air box with 3 pipes going to it.

the reason they are expensive is due to the type of turbo it is....

Only issue being, having to send the Turbo off, cant be without a car for any lengh of time.

Not much you can do with the solinod :) took it off, shook it, and you can here it moving backwards and forwards, suspect its not sticking, couldn't find a battery to test if it operates or not, tomorrow hopefully.



And what are nissans part numbers, im not familla with there type, as theres numbers all over the solinod

update, got a second person to rev it whist my head was under the bonnet.

No noise from the turbo itself, but the other side from this brownish looking pipe joint?

will have it off tomorrow now, what is there? any ideas?

yes EGR valve, looks a bit sutty around it mate like its leaking....this would go with what you said about it whistling intermitantly as the EGR only works (opens and closes) at certain times/revs etc......

will take it of tomorrow and see if I can refit it properly, new gasket etc, have heard people on here mention about blanking it off, tho not sure what is required to do this
