My truck has a cover for a lock on the tail gate. I can't seem to get the 'cover' to move and I don't want to damage it if unnecessary. Is it actually a lock? How would I install one?

If you open the tailgate, the back of it is one large panel held on by 8 screws.

You can then get to the back of the plastic panel.

No, it isn't a lock, but that is where the lock is when you do have a lock. I can't remember, but I think a simple cam lock can be adapted.
