Adblue consumption

Overall I am very pleased with my new truck, whats bugging me is the amount of Adblue my truck uses...

The dealer seemed to think it would need refilling about every service/year.

Mine asked for adblue after the first 30 miles, fine i assumed there was a minimal amount put in by Nissan to gets things started.
I put in 10 litres, about 1800 miles later it needed filling again, another ten litres and now coming up to 4000 miles it wantts more!

Is this normal?

Today before vacation long trip, I decided to fulfil Ad-blue tank. I fill up 5 litres for 3600 Km.
So as it's the first refill, and if I consider that tank was full when car was delivered, that makes 1.38 litre per 1000 Km. So From full to empty a maximum of 5000 Km per tank would be achieved.
Waiting for other experiences. :wink2:

Not so - you do need to check just how much you add to bring it to full - it officially holds 17.5 Ltrs?
Doubt you add that much each time as you would have run the car to a complete stop and it would not run until more was added.

When we know how much was actually added for the 12K then its possible to work it out.

Light had come on each occasion and I driven about 30-40 miles approx each time, I went to London the other day and as I was getting close to what I thought would be the light coming on I bought a squeeze bag of blue 2.5l to put in so I'm not gonna see if it would go on the 12k mark . But yes I feel it's 2500k to a tank when the light comes on for me but tbh these pieces of junk and a mystery and I sooooo regret buying it , back arguing with Nissan about how rubbish my paint is , all road use and it looks like it's been cleaned with metal wool ?

My AdBlue warning came on at 3000 miles, and the tank took just short of 10 litres to fill, which doesn't sound right - if the tank is 17 litres then why is the warning coming up when it's only just over half empty? Compared to some here I consider myself quite fortunate, will be interesting to see how many miles I get before the warning comes up again.
Halfords sell a 10 litre can for ÂŁ14, are there any better deals than that around?

Update on AdBlue consumption - I've had a call from Nissan to advise they are currently investigating the usage of AdBlue on the NP300 Navara's. With my consumption at around 150 miles per litre I was advised to keep my AdBlue receipts and they would keep me updated on the investigation.

Never bothered working out an accurate mpg figure as yet.
Heard something interesting today though. Apparently the dealers are not allowed to top up the AdBlue provided by Nissan in the vehicles on delivery. Wonder if it's a slightly different mix for an initial run in of the system?

Nope, cannot be a fact.
The invoice for my NP300 (now a month old) clearly states ÂŁXX for a full tank of 'AdBlue'
This is outside of the car cost etc, so definitely an extra.

Some shocking news in from Nissan today. 120 miles per litre of AdBlue is fine and acceptable to them!

"We maintain that Ad Blue consumption between 120 – 400miles per litre is normal. When your vehicle was with the dealership they were unable to identify any faults to the system."

120 miles/litre might be normal in their eyes, but it's still ****! That's 2000 miles on the full 17 litre tank, although it seems to be accepted that it asks to be refilled after about 10 litres.

To be fair, adblue consumption is one thing that I'm not having an issue with (so far). I've done 3000 miles and it hasn't asked for a top up yet.

Accurate AdBlue Consumption Figures

I'm trying to colate some accurate real life AdBlue usage figures from Navara owners.
Can you keep your reply short and without quoting this post, and advise on your figures, and type of driving conditions, and if you tow anything.
As some of you are aware from the other AdBlue posting I've got quite a high usage of AdBlue, and all Nissan confirms is that according to the diagnostic 'Computer', my system reports everything is normal. My consumption is roughly 150 miles per litre of AdBlue. Nissan also say this is an acceptable figure! I'm also trying to obtain real time figures from other vehicle owners like the VW Amrok, L200's, Isuzu's etc. As an example 2 Range Rover owners have managed 620 miles per litre, and the other 510 miles per litre - both very acceptable!

I completely ran out of adblue, where I got the red warning "vehicle will not start" which it would not. The mileage was reading 10800, I began to fill it with a half liter bottle it took 1.5 liters before it would start.

I have since drove 900 miles and the countdown adblue warning as appeared quoting 612 miles. So 1500 miles per 1.5 liters if my math is correct equates to 1000 per liter...

Bearing in mind before this the truck was filled up by dealership when the adblue leak was done under warranty at 7400 iirc which makes 3400 miles on the last tankful... something does not add up :nerd2:

Or perhaps everyone should completely run out to see if the same occurs !

Warning came on today for first time after 3650 miles. I filled it up at 3770 with 10.4 litres, brim full. Obviously I don't know how much it started life with, but seeing the other mistakes that got through PDI, I wouldn't bet on it being full when new. Will have to wait for a bit before refilling to see what consumption is like.

Adblue warning pinged for the first time on a drive back from Cornwall.
I was told that it was filled to full when I collected it as part of a package. How to tell if so -
Todays mileage was 3894, and it has been driven exactly as I usually would - except this is now auto instead of manual.
Not thrashed, but equal amonts of motorway (99% cruise) and to/from work.
Mpg average to /from work 28, motorway work 34.
Way better then my old D40.

My AdBlue light came on again for the first time in aaages. I've done a couple of long trips and last filled it to the brim on the first one, then topped up with a couple of litres that were left in the bottle before the second trip.

First trip was at ~12k miles on the clock - filled AdBlue to brim.
Second trip was at ~15k miles and topped up with maybe two to three litres - light hadn't come on at this point.
Now at ~17.5k miles and it just popped up again.

From what people have been saying about the warning coming on at half-way, I'd say that I'm getting pretty reasonable consumption now. It did seem to slow down AdBlue consumption after the first 6k or so miles.
I'd say I've gone about 5500 miles on ~12l which equates to very similar to what the book says.

EDIT: I've also found a nearby Shell garage that has AdBlue at the HGV pumps for 69.9p/l. This isn't exactly cheap, but it's a damn site cheaper than buying it in bottles from anywhere else I've found.

@4062 miles I added 9.98 L of Adblue. This was to the brim, literally. Could not squeeze in the extra little bit from a 10L container.
I am assuming that the tank was full at first purchase - so 17L or 18l - dependant if brimmed.

All I had was a warning in the dash, no countdown to mileage before it ceased to drive.

It all seems to be as suggested as far as I can see.
So *if* you could use a tankfull I would have done some 6.8k miles.

I have driven totally as I usually do, with very occasional full pedal kick down - it has yet to see 80+ on the speedo, and that would be an overtake manoeuvre / emergency.

There is a constant 350+ kg in the bed with drawers and stuff in them.
Still not 'run in' so will be interesting to see where this goes as more miles added.

Not happy with my AdBlue consumption. Have done just over 10k miles and the warning has been on 4 times. The first time it came on I got around 7l from a friend. It came on again so I bought 10l and filled it up. The third time I managed to get it brimmed from a tank at my in-laws business. This morning it came on again. :frown2::frown2:

My driving is probably 80-90% on dual carriageway/motorway. When traffic permits I'll be doing 80mph.

Just had to top mine up again. So far I've put in 27.5 litres, for 7760 miles, which works out to 282 miles per litre. Not terrible, but significantly under Nissan's claims. The dealer assured me that they'd topped it up on delivery, and I believe them, since I got to 3600 miles before it first asked for a refill.

One thing I did notice today though, is that it's not obvious when you've brimmed it. I filled it quite slowly until it was overflowing, but I found that it gradually 'swallowed' it and I could get another half a litre or so in until it overflowed again. I was able to repeat this and get about two more litres into it. So it's quite possible that you might think you've brimmed it, but it's still breathing out the air slowly and isn't quite full. I suspect my first top up didn't get it properly full, as that worked out closer to 350 MPL.
