Hi, I have a 2008 D40 (long way down) and before Christmas my airbag warning light came on, I searched on here and found the thread on how to reset the light. I did this but the light will come back on after less than 10 mins.
So a friend of a friend hooked the truck up to his dinostic machine and we got the fault code as follows:

B1049 DRIVER AIRBAG MODULE[OPEN]

Can anybody point me in the right direction on how to solve the issue? I'm not very mechanically minded but I do have friends that are if I can point them in the right direction! I have its MOT later this month so it's something I need to sort ASAP and I really can't afford to take it into Nissan after an expensive Christmas!

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It is either a fault in the module or the wiring to the steering wheel airbag.

If I were you I would find an independent auto electrician and get him to sort it. Saying that, if you have a multimeter you could do some continuity checks...

Thanks, that is my plan to be honest but I wanted to go to them with an idea where to point them - I've had it in the past with other cars where it took them all day to find the fault (at my expense). I was hoping somebody on here may have had the same fault and could point me in the right direction. We've all heard nightmare stories where the "experts" have changed (and charged for) parts that didn't need changing! And then ended up changing 2 or 3 parts to get to the one that was causing the problem

Given the frequency we have seen the clock spring wiring in the wheel hub failing and their low price I would recommend fitting a new clock spring. There are plenty available on Ebay, you just need to confirm the right part number.

The steering wheel needs to come off but it appears to be a straight forward job

I might sound stupid now but how do I confirm the part number?

Just a quick update for anybody using the search engine somewhere down the line.
It turns out it was the clock spring, I picked up an after market part of eBay for ÂŁ21.99 and got it fitted by an auto mechanic for ÂŁ80.

I really appreciate all the advice and I'm very happy to have it fixed for less than ÂŁ150 (inc diognostic)

How did you reset the airbag light?
Mine came on today. Generally with warning lights I reset them at first to rule out a glitch and if it comes back then I get it looked at

Hi. I had the same thing happen to me. I tried to reset by counting turns of the key etc but it didn't work. I called out an electrical engineer who traced the fault to the clock spring. Cost me about ÂŁ300 with the parts vat and labour. This was in April 2015.
According to the engineer it's quite a common problem.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

How did you reset the airbag light?
To reset the airbag light without Nissan Consult enter diagnosis mode and return to user mode (clears all error data)

SRS will not enter Diagnosis mode if no malfunction is detected in User mode.
1. Turn ignition switch ON.
2. After “AIR BAG” warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch OFF within 1 second.
3. Wait more than 3 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 two more times (3 times total).
5. Turn ignition switch ON.
SRS is now in Diagnosis mode.

Repeat above to return to user mode.
If in diagnosis mode no malfunction is detected, User mode can be returned to by turning the ignition OFF then ON

Nice one cheers
I've reset it and as soon as I moved off driving it came back so definitely something gone wrong
To plug it in can any code reader work or has it got to be Nissan?
During the diagnosis mode do the flash sequence "read" the code like it does during the ecu reset

Just drove past a garage and thought I'd try my luck if they can read the code and yes they can and he didn't even charge me
"Front right module, circuit open"
So I'm guessing clock spring?
After a quick ebay search I found a few at very different prices
Some for as little as ÂŁ15 and others for ÂŁ45 and one or two for ÂŁ90 what's the difference?

The air bag warning light flashes like the MIL to show the error code.
It's always on for 7 seconds then starts blinking and repeats the blinks.
Long blinks (3 seconds), short blinks (1.5 seconds) and flashes (0.5 seconds)
So 1 long 2 flashes is the drivers air bag module
2 short and 3 flashes is the RH satellite sensor

If you can work out the flashes I can tell your error lol

I think we were typing at the same time lol,

The front right module is the side air bag in the seat...
check the harness and everything under the seat
Apparently you can't replace just the air bag, you need a new seat back assembly if it goes wrong...

1. Visually check the wiring harness connection.
2. Replace the harness if it has visible damage.
3. Replace front RH seat back assem- bly (front RH side air bag module). (Before disposal, it must be deployed.)
4. Replace the air bag diagnosis sensor unit.
5. Replace the related harness.
