Hi all.

Not long had my 2006 D40 Auto but it did something its never done or I've not noticed before and I'm unsure if its normal or a fault as its my first auto.

Anyway I pulled onto a dual carriageway near home the other day at about 40mph and I applied some throttle to increase my speed. I noticed that the revs shot up to 2750rpm ish and sat there solid and didn't move until the speed reached around 65mph and then it changed gear.

I've driven my Dads old S-Type Jag and XF Jag and neither did this the revs went up with the speed.

It just seemed a bit odd but this could just be how a Navara should be. Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

James

I have the 2011 Tekna connect auto and mine does that if you give it lots of gas, not enough to activate the kick down but more than just gently increasing your throttle. It sounds like a clutch slipping on a manual box, the revs stay high and the speed catches up. I think it's pretty normal.

On the subject of auto boxes acting up, is it a know issue with the navara having trouble deciding which gear to be in? Mine shifts up and down like crazy when driving at between 30 and 40, never any other speed.

Sounds like you got into "kick down" if you lift off slightly it should change up

Over drive button

Mine revs with road speed sometimes with foot of the throttle, actually always on the same spot of road going home, down hill around 40 mph, like a manual would with foot of the throttle, I then give the throttle a quick blip which let's the revs fall down to idle, still maintaining the 40 mph...

???
The button on the gear lever is supposed to let it rev a little higher thus stoping the constant gear changing

This is exactly what its doing but I dont have to put much throttle on for it to do it.

overdrive on or off no difference

I've tried lifting of and what not, it changes and then any amount of throttle to maintain speed and just goes back again.

I will try to grab a video to try and help explain.

Thanks

What's your gearbox oil level like?

Some gearboxes need you to significantly pass the speed then come down slowly.
Hunting usually happens in sport mode where applicable.

Does seem a little odd, I have trouble getting mine to rev that high without using the kick down, it very rarly goes above 2000 before it changes and sits at about 1200 most of the time. it almost feels like it might stall, then it changes up again. I don't however drive very fast!!
