Hi Guys,

I have in my possession a BGA timing chain kit for a D40. Brand new it is. Its NOT Duplex. Looks the part though and has everything I need to complete the job.
I know, Bill car, blah blah, but I dont have 800 quid, and mine is really starting to rattle when cold now, this evening was pretty bad. So on borrowed time.

Firstly, anyone used one of these?
Secondly, I wonder if it's worth the effort. As in it is better made than OEM? I have nothing to compare it too.
Thirdly and most importantly how long do you think it'll take an amateur to do this job?

Can't remember how much this kit cost exactly but it was up there in the ÂŁ290s I think.

Probably have to take a week of work to do it I think. I do have a friendly Mechanic who has offered to fit it for me, and that is more money when I could do without spending any more for a while on my car. I'm already in trouble for buying parts.?

Regards,

Matt

Ok so you fitted a genuine timing chain kit and you had the top tensioner fail after 10k miles, well done! So obviously this must of been down to your master tech skills due to the fact that the genuine nissan kits snap the lower simplex chains and the top tensioners on genuine nissan kits dont tend to fail at 10k, nissan would be well and truly screwed if that was the case. Id say thats more mechanic error tbh, maybe you didnt torque the bolt correctly, who knows? Tbh i dont really care.

As for alternative ideas, there isn't really any others is there? Its only ever billcar this billcar that. There needs to be other options, if your sore you spunked ÂŁ300 on a kit that failed then another ÂŁ1200 on a kit fitted by billcar then thats your problem, sort of ironic really considering you're trying to portray yourself as clever in your previous response and yet that dosen't seem very "clever" to me, maybe if i appeared on the forum earlier i could of opened your somewhat blinkered eyes to a money saving and just as effective option but never mind, ill still sleep.

Oh, and if you wanna pick up on typo's its 2 leg puller not pulley, hehe.

I will just point out that BGA have been going for quite a while. I see nothing about them that suggests they are anything like your typical Chinese eBay merchant. Let's not knock them till its been tried. It's what owners forums are all about.

Well awhile ago I asked about BGA KITS. Not because of their quality but more for personal preference on the YD engine. I'm not going to go into my job on here but I do sell BGA parts to the trade and we have near a 0% failure rate on their products. The % that have failed has been tested by manufacture which comes back with an extensive report and found to have failed because of fitting. - and as mentioned. That's a very small % compared to what I sell. I'm able to look into sales of the BGA kit that has been supplied for the YD engine and can say in the 3 years that I can look back through sales and warranty there has never been a failure reported.

This was good enough for me so I bought one for my self. About to have it fitted next week and it's being fitted by a local garage I know well who is under a scheme called Timing Excellence. This mean if the supplied kit fails either through part failure or is caused my fitting error, The parts supplier will pay for the total replacement of having that engine replaced or repaired at a book time fitting cost. So long as I get a VAT invoice for having the kit fitted, if it fails under this scheme. My warranty is with that garage, their warranty is with the factor, Their warranty is through the company that offer the scheme. And as it turns out, I know the scheme is a no quibble warranty.
