Hi, 2003 Navara 51000 miles original suspension, obviously needs new shocks, I cant believe they all drive so ****.
Would a set of new monroe shocks be worth putting on rather than the originals or some of the other upgrade shocks?
Dont often carry really heavy loads sometimes tow 4.5 tons round a golf course, do heavier rear springs harden the ride much if any? I am in N.Ireland and am not aware if any one over here stocks emo or avo`s for navaras. :?:

Thanks

I wouldn't suggest original shocks as they are way over priced for what you get. I can't reccommend a brand over here, but have always got good performance from rancho shcoks in my other trucks in canada. i don't know if rancho sells shocks for navaras either, i'm around same year and milege so am goinf to start shopping for new shocks, would like to go for a small lift, as this will get new springs and shocks with the kit

Hi again, tyre pressures spot on,read somewhere else on the forum that uprated springs actually softened the ride because of increased travel?

I noticed when slowing down almost to a stop you put the brake on it takes a nose dive which makes me think that the shocks on the front are doing nothing at all.

Any body else notice the same?
Reason I mentioned the monroes I put a set on an old 89 l200 which could have cornered better than the nav or my last isuzi pickup, and it was on 205x16 tyres

Monroes cost about 50 quid each.

can you not test the front shocks by bouncing on the front like you do a car?
If it recovers after more than one bounce they are knackered (and thats a technical term! )

Yea tried the bouncing bit on the front but it aint as easy as on a car, when you apply the brakes at almost a standstill it does same job only both shocks at once and it does bounce to much just like poor shocks.

Hi Bud

I have had my Nav now for some time and it does go off-road quite often too.
I havent replaced my shocks yet and its done 64000m. They are rubbish and there are some good replacements on the markets.

The Old Man shocks are really good and I have had them on all our Hulix's and Land Rovers back in South Africa and they were brilliant. Really good for heavy duty jobs. But if your going to put a lot of weight in the back... Stiffen up the back end and get some heavy duty springs on there.

You can buy the stuff for next to nothing on ebay

Cheers
Nico

Hi diggerman glad to read the shocks have worked. Did they improve the ride quality? My nav has only done 30K but thr ride quality has always been bad. I know its a pick up and you have to be realistic but I have an 05 L200 for work and the ride quality knocks spots off the nav. Where did you get the shocks from. Thanks jim
