Evening all.

Im new here, so first off, my names Dan. Ive just turnt 21, and i run a flooring company! so need the bed to carry small materials etc! it also comes in handy for towing as my fiesta just doesnt cut the job anymore!

So, ive done a search etc, i dont really want to spend more then 10k.

I dont want nothing older then an 06 either. i dont want to sell my fiesta for an older car, afterall, thats why im upgrading.

if i have to put more money towards it i will! i just want to stick around the 10k budget.

Ive been looking around at some, reading reviews etc, and literally, from what i can read its a 50/50 scenario with good stories, and horror stories.

i vagely remember the whole watchdog thing on tv, and since then ive been a bit warey.

So.. can some of you trusty nav owners, tell me what to look out for when purchasing one?

what years are better? if any? what to look out for etc.

Ive heard of the engine destroying itsself after 60k? is that true or just a rumour?

Be glad for a reply! many thanks!
Dan

Hello mate firstly welcome to the site,as for the navs rite 2006 was the changeover year from the d22 to the d40 so you could get either. The d22 was the pickup that had issues and was featured on watchdog but a relatively easy mod that costs around a grand eliminates any major problems and turns them in to very capable very reliable trucks. The d40 is the newer shape truck wich has its problems with clutches and halfshafts in the 2006 model but il leave that to the d40 boys to explain. As with any vehicle mate you only hear about 1 bad one out of every 1000 good ones so have a good read through this site and everything you need to know is on here, there the best trucks out there.Good luck with the purchase :D

Thanks for the fast reply Joe.

Understand where your coming from on hearing the bad all the time.

i have one truck in mind, its an 06 with 40k miles on the clock. asking price is 9k. has the rear tonneau cover, all the bull bars, side steps etc.

where do i need to look to find out what model / engine the truck has? its one of many of my girlfriends dads work veichle that hardly gets used. just a window sales man drives it to measure up. its never had a heavy load in the back of it.

What are these trucks like for towing? ill be using it to go from london to kent regulary towing two jet skis. around 150 mile round trip? what do they normally consume doing these journeys?

Id rather buy a truck and not have to do anything on it. just get in and drive it. i cant have a truck thats not mechanically sound, as i use it as a work veichle. i need the peace of mind that its going to be ok.

if i get the numberplate, am i able to tell anything by that? on a nissan database or whatever?

cheers
Dan

That will be the newer d40 mate im not that up on the clutch issue so il leave tat for someone who is.As for towing there top tow motors mate u wont even know its on the back, the engine in the d40 is solid so you got no worrys there and drivens sensibly expect 30mpg.

Thanks for the info.

so its a d40! i have that one cleared up.

manual or auto? whats the auto like with nissans? what do most of you lot have? is the clutch issue on both moters? or just the manual ?

cheers

Hi and welcome, the D40 (latest shape) was introduced in 2005, then in July 2007 they gave it a slight facelift. Which included new type alloy rims, puddle lamps and indicators built into the side mirrors, entry kick plates, new soft touch paint to interior, but the truck is still the same shape etc.

Early D40's were Euro 3 engines, better on fuel economy, and slightly more powerfull than the current models. At the end of 2006 the Euro 4 engine is used, which is quite dramaticly less economical, and slightly less powerfull than the Euro 3.

Some early D40's had clutch issues which were fixed under warranty, but the later models don't seem to suffer this problem.

Autos don't have a clutch

I have a 55 plate 06 registered D40, no real problems with it and on its 1st clutch. Its been chipped and now has a remap at near 200 BHP and the clutch is still holding 8) Just check with your dealer that its had it recalls done as one is a air bag switch or something along those lines. Best pickup out there still :afro:
